DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 7 km DURATION: 1 hour 34 minutes It was the perfect day for Huxley to meet another DGR girl pup. Miss Reba - this is Hux Pup. They did very well together. I headed out first with Huxley and we met Aoife & Reba (and Henry too) at Nosehill. The dogs were so excited to romp and run off-leash. The heat was rising and the tongues started to dangle. It was a fantastic fun time for this trio. I think a new ‘A Pack’ is forming. The Doggy Business Report: Huxley had 2 poops and lots of pees. Reba had 1 poop and 1 pee. Runner: Michelle

DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 9.6 km DURATION: 1 hour 27 minutes Great run today with Lyla! We ran our longest run today for our last day together. Lyla was loving sun tanning her belly this afternoon and getting cuddles that she was happy to just relax instead of going for a run. With some encouragement, e.g. treats, a ball, a stick and some help from her mom, Lyla was ready to go. Thank you for the help! Once up and moving, Lyla was cruising, it was the fastest I’ve seen her run. At the 30-minute mark, Lyla and I stopped for a water break, where Lyla met lots of new friends. After our half-way point, Lyla and I explored around Killarney and headed back. Lyla was very well mannered on our run. Good luck with everything in the future. It was a pleasure to get to run Lyla for the time I had. The Scoop: 1 pee only. Runner: Dru DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 8.3 km DURATION: 1 hour 1 minute Victory! Lyla and I had only had one “pit stop” today! I applied the advice Ruth gave me last week and it worked wonderfully. Lyla and I had an amazing time together this afternoon. For our run, Lyla and I were ready to explore and see the community. Our pacing was fairly ‘slow and steady’, I assume we will be increasing our distance on our next runs as Lyla and I have got more accustomed to each other. Lyla got some cuddles as a reward and a little photo shoot. Lyla was very well behaved today! The Scoop: 1 poop, 2 pees. Runner: Dru DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 7K DURATION: 1 hour 48 minutes For our run this afternoon, Lyla was excited about April Fool's Day, playing a "stop and rest" game. She was told by countless people passing by that she is a very cute dog, which encouraged Lyla to roll on her back for a belly rub. I was struggling to get Lyla moving after running 2-3 km. I called Ruth asking for support. Ruth joined Lyla and me to gain a better understanding of the situation, and to offer her expertise. Tips offered by Ruth included keeping a firmer hand and to keep Lyla moving. As Christine and I discussed after returning from the run, Lyla is a smart girl. After Ruth showed me a few pointers, Lyla and I were keeping a steady running pace and she was an excellent listener. Thank you Ruth for the help. Lyla is such a lovely dog, offering a smile and a tail wag to anyone we pass. The Scoop: 1 pee, 0 poop. Runner: Dru DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 7.3 km DURATION: 1 hour 36 minutes Great fun was had today with Miss Lyla! It was a slower pace for our run, so Lyla and I enjoyed some games to increase our pacing. We played “catch the rolling snowball” and “run with a stick”. We had lots laughs enjoying our time out today. Many people out walking were laughing watching us play our “games”. Lyla was very well mannered on our outing today. No one could ask for better company. The Scoop: 2 pees, 1 poop. Runner: Dru DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 6.7 km DURATION: 1 hour 9 minutes It was an excellent outing with Lyla today! We had a couple of “stand stills” so I had to use my grown-up voice to get her moving. Near the middle of the run, Lyla and I sorted things out and we had fewer ‘lay downs’. Lyla's pace was slower today so we just took our time running. There were lots of people out enjoying the warm weather. We received lots of ‘hi’s’ and ‘waves.’ We ran some hills to burn the last bit of energy out of us. Lyla is such a wonderful girl. She always puts a smile on anyone’s face who passes by. It was lovely spending time with her today. The Scoop: 1 pee. Runner: Dru DGR RUN OF THE DAY #5 ![]() DISTANCE: 7.5 km DURATION: 1 hour 22 minutes Hello, great run with Lyla today! She is such a cuddle-bug. It was shorter run today, as many pit-stops for belly rubs were had. However, thanks to Owner Ruth we were able to figure out Lyla’s passion for sticks. Lyla and I became stick collectors for the day, to keep Lyla extra motivated to run. Some treats for persuasion were also shared with Lyla. Lyla was very well mannered on our run. Many passersby commented on Lyla’s ‘cuteness’, which I also gushed over. The Scoop: 1 pee, 0 poops. Runner: Dru DGR RUN OF THE DAY #2 ![]() DISTANCE: 6.2 km DURATION: 1 hour 1 minutes The sub-zero temperatures returned today but the girls did awesome to get outside and get a good run in anyways! We were fortunate to have lots of sun and little wind, which balanced out the chillier temperature quite nicely. Gibbons was a bit reluctant to get going but I gave her lots of encouragement and she responded really well! Way to go Gibs. Toki was a bit sleepy to start, which is customary for our morning runs. It’s all good though because I’m not a huge morning person either, so we got to wake up & build up our pace together! We went up into the hills after dropping Gibbons off and kept our eyes peeled for our friend the moose, but all was quiet today. Maybe Moose aren’t morning animals either! We got to have this still & peaceful morning all to ourselves, which worked out just fine for both Toki and me. The Scoop: 5 pees for Gibbons, 3 pees for Toki. No poops today. Runner: Dan DGR RUN OF THE DAY #6 ![]() DISTANCE: 8.2 km DURATION: 1 hour 1 minute You scream, I scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM! Hot weather and bright sunshine this afternoon has Lyla and I craving for all things summer. We started out with a trip to Sandy (more like snowy) Beach to soak up some sunshine. Then, we ran past an ice cream shop. Since we weren’t able to stop for real ice cream. We made do with our own handmade snow cones. Munching on some snow cones while lying down in the snow was definitely Lyla’s favourite part of the day. The Scoop: 1 pee. Runner: Lauren DGR RUN OF THE DAY #7 ![]() DISTANCE: 8.5 km DURATION: 1 hour 3 minutes This afternoon, Lyla took some coaxing to leave the porch. She was a little groggy as she has just woke up from a nap (according to her mom). Once we got going on our run and after an appropriate amount of belly rubs, Lyla set a lovely warm-up pace. She livened up her pace upon noticing the fresh snow and spotting some squirrels out and about. The faster running meant we did a bit longer distance and spent time cooling off by rolling in the fresh (but wet!) snow. We also found the tiniest door leading into the base of a big tree (see photo. Is it the home of a little gnome? The Scoop: 1 pee. Runner: Lauren DGR RUN OF THE DAY #5 ![]() DISTANCE: 8.2 km DURATION: 1 hour 6 minutes Lyla was full of beans today! She was very excited to get out for our afternoon run and was bubbling with excitement in the time leading up to our run, according to her mom. Of course, we had to get some belly rub time in before setting off on our run (see photo). Warmer temperatures today meant we ran a more typical distance, compared to our shorter polar vortex runs last week. We saw lots of other people and dogs out and about—it seems like lots of people were happy to enjoy the warmer weather. We passed lots of signs and decor (hand-painted tree ornaments) expressing continued support for our front-line workers. It was great to see so much positivity today. The Scoop: 1 poop, 1 pee. Runner: Lauren DGR RUN OF THE DAY #3 ![]() DISTANCE: 6.7 km DURATION: 1 hour 1 minute Winter-loving Lyla was very happy to get out for her run today. These cold temperatures don’t hamper her enthusiasm for the snow one bit. We made the most of the sunshine and ran around on lots of squeaky snow—the more that cold snow squeaks, the bouncier Lyla’s running gets. The last bit of our run was a little slower as cold paws made it a little trickier to keep the pace up, so we took a short cut home. We still ended up out and about for the full hour. The Scoop: 1 pee. Runner: Lauren DGR RUN OF THE DAY #4 ![]() DISTANCE: 6.2 km DURATION: 55 minutes The cold weather didn’t make Lyla any less excited to get out for her run this afternoon. She was full of beans; bouncing along with some extra playful energy in each step. She kept up a strong running pace for about 40 minutes and then her paws got a little cold so we headed home a little early. The Scoop: 1 poo, 1 pee. Runner: Lauren DGR RUN OF THE DAY #4 ![]() DISTANCE: 10K DURATION: 1 hour 12 minutes I should have learned my lesson from my last run with Lyla. Lyla is a fast pup and she warm my heart so it seems I always overdress and finish the run in a big sweat even on cold days like today. Lyla started our outing with what I guess is her signature roll over and give me belly rubs move. Okay, you are adorable! We then headed towards Stampede Grounds along the pathway so Lyla could see all the wildlife which included geese, bunnies and magpies. Lyla stayed pretty focused and then found a stick to carry with her. She actually found a few sticks along the way but she definitely was more interested in bunnies than sticks. Thanks for heating things up today Lyla. Next run, I will wear shorts. Just kidding as today was -13C but boy was I warm. Have a lovely weekend Lyla. The Scoop: 1 poop, 1 pee. Runner: Ruth DGR RUN OF THE DAY #2 ![]() DISTANCE: 7.7 km DURATION: 1 hour 9 minutes This run with Lyla had a lot of Christmas symbols in it. First, I thought it was going to be really chilly out so I was bundled up in snow pants like Ralphie from a. Christmas Story. Boy, was I hot! Next, we had so much snow to run through that we did our best imitation of reindeers prancing. Instead of a partridge in a pear tree, we saw a huge eagle in a tree. In addition, we went to see bunnies. I am pretty sure the Velveteen Rabbit is a Christmas story. Lyla also magically found a stick in a snowbank so that was like getting an early Christmas gift. I even sang, "It's Beginning to look a lot Like Christmas." Lyla picked up her pace. My singing voice is not the best but we sure had fun together. It was wonderful ending the run with a visit with your mom. Have a lovely Christmas Eve Lyla. Love to you, Magpie and the family! The Scoop: 2 pees only. Runner: Ruth |
