Not Every Run is a Great Run

Happy Friday Lincoln! Today started like any other run. Linc eagerly greeted me at the door.  He sat, got a treat, and we were out the door. Linc and I managed to get our usual 10K in, but today was just not a good day. Linc and I were out of sync, I stepped on his toes a couple times and he zig-zagged in front of me. There were dogs around every corner, across the street, in windows, in cars... everywhere we turned! We just never managed to find a groove. In spite of this, Lincoln still managed to take an incredibly handsome photo, and I am simply grateful that I have the opportunity to run with this guy every week. See you Monday buddy.  Dog Business: 1 poop, 3 pees.

Linc and I were so happy to see each other this morning.  This sweet boy kept jumping up to kiss me.  We had an amazing time running today.  The small covering of snow actually helped with grip.   The temperatures were great and we just enjoyed the snow falling on our faces.  We also loved the beautiful trail and playing in the snow. It was a great time with my buddy and I can't wait to go again! 1 poop and 4 pees.

Running in Rectangles with Lincoln

Happy Friday Lincoln! Due to extreme cold and extreme distance (I was in Arizona, it has been 2 weeks since our last run, so I was thrilled that the thermostat didn't dip below -20C and we got to frolic in the fresh snow! Lincoln loves the snow - loves rolling in it, loves snacking on it, loves shoving his face into it - so he was even more amped up! Run slow because it's cold does not apply to this dog!! Linc could run circles around most, but today he ran rectangles - check out our map! Four straight lines, 2 short, 2 long, and 4 90° angles equals 1 rectangle! Yes, this is a route I planned in advance, and I knew we would be a little shy of our usual 10km, but that was okay in the cold today. Linc did great in the cold, but we were both happy to be back indoors to thaw! Stay warm this weekend buddy! See you next week.  Dog business: 1 poop, 3 pees.

Lincoln and I braved the cold weather and went for a great winter run this morning. Needless to say, we didn’t encounter many people or dogs on our path. Lincoln always looks like he is smiling, so it kept me in good spirits when my face felt like it was going to freeze off. What a beautiful dog! We had a nice and steady pace for the whole run, and got some good hill work in on our way back up from Edworthy Park. The Scoop: 1 poo, 4 pees, and multiple sprays.

Hey Lincoln, wouldn’t it be better if we were on a beach with a Pina Colada? It is a bit crisp out today for us to enjoy the outdoors, but we were troopers and we did it! We were the only crazy ones out there, and you still enjoyed a good old roll in the snow. The wind was biting right through my running clothes but Lincoln didn’t seem to mind one bit. He loves the DGR runners and we love him. He has so much energy, and is so much fun to run. Thanks for getting me out to run on this Polar Vortex.  Somehow Lincoln, you made it fun. It is always a pleasure. 1 poop, 5 pees.

We didn’t go far and we didn’t go fast but, we definitely had fun!😊 When I found out that my friend Lincoln hadn’t been out running all week because of the temperatures that was all I needed to hear for this princess to suck it up and take my buddy out for a well- needed run. Truth be told, I wanted to see him anyways and I’m glad I did because he was so happy to get out and go for an adventure!😃 Lincoln and I stayed in relative close proximity to his house just in case. My friend did fine up until we were about a block away and then he refused to move!😂 I sat beside him warmed up his toes and bribed him with a treat (that’s really all he wanted😜).  He got up and we headed on in to the comforts of home. Thanks for coming out today Lincoln! Always good to see you! 1 poo and a few pees today. Cheers!

Happy Friday Lincoln! The snow is falling, the temperature is dropping; let's get this run in! Today. I set out with a route in mind that would take us all the way to Glenmore Trail; somewhere we have never been before, (new year. new routes continues!!) so I wasn't sure how far it would be. When I did a distance check, I not only discovered we had covered a good amount of distance, but we were mere blocks away from an area of the city called Lincoln Park - check out the map!! I had no idea such a place existed, and immediately took a slight detour. Wouldn't you know it, there's even a park in Lincoln Park, with sticks to play with! What a day! The cold aside, we had a great run. Lincoln's handsome snow beard was on full display, and we made pretty good time considering the sub-zero temperature. A great way to end the week before the real cold sets in. Keep warm this weekend Linc! Dog Business: 1 poop, 4 pees.

I was over the top happy to see my old friend Lincoln today! The icing on top was that he seemed just as happy about this reunion too. It's hard to believe that I first met this guy three years ago! Clearly, we will be lifelong friends. We had a special guest join us. Regula is interested in becoming a Dog Gone Runner. Lincoln and I both think she'd be great! Here's her blog:

I got to join Tammy and Lincoln for their run today. What a beautiful and smart boy Lincoln is! He was really excited to see us. After doing what was necessary right in the beginning of our run (4 pees 1 poop), we settled into a nice comfortable pace and enjoyed the beautiful morning. Lincoln noticed all the other dogs watching us from their houses, but he just gave them a look and we went our merry way. Good boy! He did get a little jumpy when we encountered two other dogs on the sidewalk and he barked at a bicycle, but it was easy for Tammy to get his focus back with a "sit" and a treat.

Ups and Downs with Lincoln

Happy Monday Lincoln! It's a tad chilly this morning, so how does a nice hill climb to keep us warm sound? The cock of his head told me, "yes hooman, now give me a treat" and we were off. Up, up, up 17th Avenue we went; it's a nice, steady climb that's not too steep, but a good 1.5 kilometres long. Needless to say, we were warm by the time we got to the top and thoroughly enjoyed the downhill that followed. Downhills in the winter can be tricky, and the dusting of snow yesterday made it necessary to be diligent navigating the sidewalks and the ice underneath. The downhill seemed to energize Lincoln, because once we crossed over Sarcee again, we picked up the pace for the last stretch home! We were flying, until a very rare late run poop stopped us! Linc is usually a 1st km pooper, but today we were so focused on chugging uphill.  He must have forgot! The last block to Lincoln's house is littered with dogs, so Linc always enjoys the spin-o-rama's and over exuberance that he exudes whenever other dogs are around. Home at last for a paw wipe and a treat. See you Friday Linc!  Dog business: 1 poop, 4 pees.

Happy Friday Lincoln! Our new year of new routes continues today with a tour that takes us to Mount Royal University! If you squint really hard you can see the sign in the background of the photo. It got me to thinking about what Linc would major in if there was Dog University. For whatever reason, Liberal Arts came to mind.  Lincoln is most definitely a free spirit who marches to the beat of his own drum! I don't think he would thrive in a more structured business program. He would become one of those over-assertive salespeople who no matter how many times you tell them no, they keep coming back! Once again, we had a great time exploring new roads. See you Monday Linc!  Dog Business: 1 poop,3 pees.

Lincoln, it has been a long time since we have run together, and what a great way to spend the morning. Just as I was pulling up to pick up this fun loving pup, the snow began. I had a route planned and I decided to stick with it even though the weather was getting cold and wet. So we headed down to Edworthy Park, I wanted to do Douglas Fir Trail, but when I realized how icy it was under the snow, we decided to stay on the path. That was still very icy and I ended up on my bum. Lincoln thought we were playing and seemed to enjoy the idea of me on the ground. We hit the trails and headed back up the ridge towards home. Thanks Lincoln for the great morning run. Hope to see you again. 1 poop, 7 pees.

Lincoln finds a stick that is too hard to resist

DISTANCE: 9.82 km . DURATION: 53:52

Happy Monday Lincoln! Thankfully, it is much warmer than our last run and there is no wind to speak of, so it looks like we are in for a good one to start off the week. It was especially good for Lincoln right off the bat, with the discovery of a stick to play with! Linc doesn't often try to pick anything up off the ground on our runs, but this stick was too good to resist! It was quite long, so when he tried to run with it, it tangled in the leash and between his front legs, leading to an adorable tumble. I managed to stay on my feet, but Lincoln decided the stick needed some TLC and spent a good couple minutes gnawing at it, you know, to make sure the stick was okay. We got moving again and ventured into Bankview today. It's fun watching Linc in a new area; his head is on a constant swivel, and his nose is to the ground making sure he familiarizes himself with the area. The soft snow gave Linc some paw problems today, and we had to stop and clear out little ice balls a couple times, but other than that we had a great run. See you on Friday buddy!  Dog Business: 1 poop, 3 pees.

The F Word

Happy Friday Lincoln! I have some unfortunate news for you, winter has finally come to Calgary. A decent snowfall over the last 24 hours, and an almost 20 degree drop in temperature since our last run means that the F word is coming out... FRIGID! Neither Linc or I are fair weather runners. We have been out in far worse, but there is something about the first really cold run of the season that cuts deep! Lincoln doesn't wear booties in the snow, and we have never had issues with his paws, but today he pulled up a couple times to get rid of snow build-up. I wore my full winter layering combo, which usually leaves me almost overheating, but today I felt chilled to the bone by the end of the 10km. We were both happy to get back inside to thaw. Stay warm this weekend buddy! See you on Monday!  Dog Business: 1 poop, several pees.

I have had several long shifts the past few days so I was super excited to run Lincoln.   Lincoln was super excited to see me too. The trees were so beautiful covered with white frost. The weather was not too bad but we realized it was quite slippery so we were careful to stay safe. We did some uphills for a great workout. sniffed frozen grass, enjoyed fresh air and stayed out of trouble. 2 Poops and 5 pees today.

New Year, New Routes!

DISTANCE: 10.56 km . DURATION: 57:58

Happy Monday Lincoln! I have decided that 2019 will be about exploring new routes Lincoln! There are paths that I have been hesitant to take with Lincoln because I know they're high dog traffic areas, and we all know how excitable Linc is when he sees another dog! But Lincoln has been really well behaved recently, so today I took the chance and we crossed the Edworthy Park bridge onto the much more well traveled Bow River Pathway. As anticipated, many dogs dotted the pathway, and Lincoln reacted as expected, but because the area was so open, we used the space to take a wide berth around them. Once we cleared the Edworthy area, it was smooth sailing. We cruised along the river with the sun warming our faces. We climbed the golf course hill mostly blind due to the sun position, so thankfully no one was coming down! An easy last couple kilometers and we were home! Bow River Pathway conquered! Way to go Linc! See you again on Friday.  Dog Business: 1 poop 4 pees.
