I couldn’t wait to meet Archie! I remember seeing his pictures on the DGR blog when he was just a puppy. He sure isn’t a puppy any longer! More like a pony! He is still very friendly and playful like a puppy though. I was given a couple warnings ahead of time, but didn’t have an issue getting his nifty collar and leash on. He was just excited to get outside, and gave my plenty of wet kisses! He was full of energy and we set a good pace. I never really felt his strong pull; even when other dogs barked at us from their backyard. He just stood and stared at them until I gave him a light tug to follow me. The path around the pond had been shovelled so we did a couple loops around that. We finished off with a big sweet potato treat! Great to meet you Archie. See you soon! The scoop: 4 pees, no poo. ![]() DISTANCE: 2.93 km . DURATION: 21:49 It’s been a long time since I last saw this sweet girl! I don’t know if she remembered me, but after all the anticipation hearing Archie get out, she cooperated really well getting her boots on so she could get out ASAP! Just as I was told, she started out with guns blazing; full speed ahead. But after the first km, she started to slow up and enjoy the sights and smells. Again, I headed toward the pond so we weren’t constantly jumping over piles of snow. This area of town definitely seemed to have more snow than the other areas I have been lately. As we neared home, Freckles kept stopping and delaying - I guess she wanted to spend more time outside! It looks like we will have more time together tomorrow! Hopefully, the weather will improve as well! I made sure Freckles got a sweet potato treat before putting her back upstairs. See you tomorrow! The scoop: 3 pees, 1 poo. Runner: Nathan ![]() DISTANCE: 7.45 km DURATION: 1:01:30 Running outside in winter is not crazy! Contrary to external appearances, today's run with Archie and Freckles only needed a few modifications to keep us all safe. We split time between the two dogs to make sure no one was outside for too long. Between the three of us, we were likely wearing about $800 worth of technical gear to keep us securely tethered, firmly gripping pavement and ice, and reasonably warm. "Tish tosh," we said aloud. We're Canadian, put on a toque and booties! We kept an eye on each other to be sure no one was limping with a funny, "too cold" stride. That includes Archie's suspicious glances because I was wearing ski goggles - "who is that crazy thing," he seemed to suggest. And we kept reasonably close to home in case anyone needed to make a quick dash back. Lastly, we all finished off our time with a few extra calories to get our blood sugar back up. Archie and Freckles from the doggie treat jar. Me from the human treat jar left to warm my heart. Thank you! The scoop: Archie - 3 pees and Freckles - 6 pees, 1 poop. Runner: Sheri ![]() DISTANCE: 7.08 km DURATION: 1:00:13 Happy Wednesday kiddos! Today was my first 30/30 with the kids. So Archie got a longer run and Freckles got a shorter one! All went super well, although I had to trick Archie to come to me a bit with a treat. He knows about his halter and I am not sure he is fan of it. But since he is such good boy, no pressure was applied at any given moment. If anything, he had some nice rubs and treats along the way 😃🐾. Freckles had an awesome day as well.. She is well mannered. I just have to say “hey”, and she goes by my heel. We stayed on the road mainly. It looks like that ice is here to stay. There was not as much sunshine as yesterday but the weather was awesome regardless. See you tomorrow Freckles!! Poop Scoop: Archie had few pees. Freckle had 1 poop and 3 pees. Runner: Fab ![]() DISTANCE: 7.02 km DURATION: 1:02:27 Oh, hello Archie and Freckles! It's been a while since I have seen you both! You look amazing so I take it you had a great holiday season! Archie was the first one to go out. It looks like Santa brought you a nice halter/collar? I don’t know if Archie loves it but I know I do. He was a completely different pup; so respectful! I loved it. Since you are so good, you get extra treats Archie. Now this is a good deal...right? Then I took Freckles out. We went off trail to avoid some icy sidewalks, but I am not even sure it was a good choice. Ice is everywhere and looks like it is a day to be extra careful! We had a great run still. And since the sun was bright and shiny, it really made today a perfect one. Poop Scoop: Archie had 3 pees, no poop. Freckles had 3 pees and 1 poop. Runner: Fab ![]() DISTANCE: 5.09 km DURATION: 1:07:30 Today was chilly, and the neighbourhood sure is icy, first up was Archie. I spent today’s walk trying to understand Archie. Some days he is so easy to walk, not giving other dogs a second glance. Other days his sole focus is on the other walking dogs in the area, pulling me, barking and carrying on. Why can two days be so different? Time in his kennel maybe? His sister Freckles maybe? Who knows, but today was a challenge for Archie. Freckles was in a great mood until the booties had to be put on. We made it work, She tried after her bathroom break to kick them off. It was quite cute how hard she was working... See you tomorrow guys. Hopefully before the snow. Archie 3 pees no poops Freckles 1 poop 4 pees Runner: Audra ![]() DISTANCE 4.02 km DURATION: 39:40 Freckles DISTANCE: 2.15 km DURATION: 30:08 Archie How did Christmas go Freckles and Archie? You both looked very happy to see me and to get outside to enjoy the sunshine. First up ARCHIE... Archie was feeling fine today watching curiously the birds as they sang a song for us on our stroll. Being admired by other humans, Archie is popular around the neighbourhood. Now, Freckles turn and off like a sprinter she went for :30 seconds and then it turned into more of a sniff-about. We couldn't ask for a better day on Jan 3. Wow@ T-shirt weather; that is amazing! Thanks guys. See you tomorrow. Archie had 4 pees, 0 poops. Freckles had 1 poop, 8 pees. Runner: Audra ![]() DISTANCE: 7.01 km DURATION: 1:21:43 Hello Freckles and Archie!😊 I haven’t seen these poopers in a while, especially Archie! I took him out first and we followed the frozen bunny nugget trail.. Seriously, it was a there and back. He knows the route well!😂 Freckles, let’s hit it! My friend was in the mood to run until she wasn’t! Again with the bunny nugget trail, it must run in the family.😜 We also had some lengthy decision-making to do at every corner - open field or street crossing? You get the gist. She’s so cute! I love it when Freckles looks up at you to see if what she’s doing is okay. You be you, Freckles, that’s why we luv you!😁Anyways, we rounded out our adventure with one last romp across the field and back to the comforts of home. Thanks for hanging with me this afternoon Freckles and Archie! I had a blast! 1 poo and several pees for Frecks; 4 pees for Archie today. Cheers! Looking forward to seeing you kids in the New Year! Runner: Tracy ![]() DISTANCE: 8.36 km DURATION: 1:12:50 A few key words to explain my time with Archie and Freckles: The first, EXPLORE! When Archie heads out for his break, his nose is focused almost completely on the ground; desperately trying to take in everything he missed. I could be a six foot squeeze toy and I'm sure he wouldn't notice. For Freckles, the word is RUN. As usual, her first kilometre is taken at a sprint. But after that initial rush out the door, her word is WONDER. Freckles can't help but take in all the happenings of her neighbourhood. We jogged underneath graceful geese heading to warmer temperatures. We ran beside excavators continuing their busy work. We tried to run past several trees, signs and hydrants but they all smelled too delicious or curious to pass quickly. Freckles took every opportunity to stop and enjoy today. And considering the ominous warning of an upset tummy before we left, I was in the mood to accommodate. Maybe we should all explore our runs with wonder. The scoop: Archie had 6 pees, no poops. Freckles had far too many markings to count, 1 poop. Runner: Sheri ![]() ARCHIE: 1.56 km DURATION: 27:24 FRECKLES: 5.44 km DURATION: 59:14 Oh Archie! Oh Archie! What is wrong...? I have never seen you like this before. Archie had a hard time with other dogs today, and used maximum power to lunge towards them, barking and carrying on, which is not his usual personality. We had a difficult walk/pee break because there were a lot of other dogs out and this did not make Archie happy! And then there was Freckles. She was in a great non-exercise mood, stopping and sniffing, which was just fine with me. Every time I tried to speed things up, she reminded me who was in charge... the one with four legs, not two. Oh girl, so much Pitty attitude for such a cute dog. It was beautiful out today, so just being outside was great. Frecks had 1 poop, 7 pees. Archie had 3 pees. Runner: Audra ![]() DISTANCE: 2.03 km DURATION: 17:54 Oh Hello Mr Archie. This pretty boy was happy to see me. He ran to the door when I opened his cage. We went on a 2 km trot and it was great to stretch Archie’s legs. He surprised me when he decided to lunge at some dogs who were playing in their yard. I managed to stay upright as we were running on a slippery path at that moment. I got Archie heeling again, but we stopped for a time-out session and a talk😁. On the way back, we saw those same dogs but this time Archie stayed at my side, looking at me with that..”ya,ya.. I got it” kind of face. 🤣 I made sure I gave him some treats and dried the paws once back home! Poop business Report: Archie had only few pees. Runner: Fab ![]() DISTANCE: 2.54 km DURATION: 31:33 Archie DISTANCE: 5.23 km DURATION: 41:05 Freckles Today turned out to be a beautiful sun shining day. I got to Freckles' house a bit early so that I could take Archie on an extra long pee break to enjoy today’s weather. When I arrived, it was plus two degrees and so sunny! This will be perfect for an outing. As requested, Archie’s was first, attempting to put Archie’s booties on with him pulling them off as soon as I got one on, I made the decision to go without. Next up, Freckles. It was so warm out. I took off a layer before my next outing, and that is why I decided not to put Freckle's winter outfit on; if I am hot so will she be. We had a great run. We were determined, focused and had only a few sniff breaks. What a great day for a doggy outing. Have a good one guys. Archie had 4 pees, 0 poops. Freckles had 1 poop, 6 pees. Runner: Audra ![]() ARCHIE: 1.96 km DURATION: 19:16 Hello Mr Archie, It's been so long since I have seen you! Archie looks even taller now... he is becoming a big boy! The sunshine was out and Archie enjoyed his little mid-day trot. We went about 2 km. Poop scoop: Archie had no poop but had about 2 pees. FRECKLES: 5.13 km DURATION: 47:33 Today, we were blessed with some great weather. After yesterday's fast run, I warned Freckles that there wouldn’t be any speed work today. She was so disappointed... NOT! We decided that we would go explore some of the neighbourhood trails. I haven’t been in the area for a while and I found a lot of changes, and we almost had a hard time finding the trail. When we did, we had a blast.. We trotted up and down some hills and it was really relaxing. Freckles remembered the stream and was so happy to dip her little toes in it as well as have a big fresh drink. Of course, Freckles wanted her picture taken near the stream! Poop scoop: Freckles had one poop and 2 pees. Runner: Fab ![]() DISTANCE: 7.20 km DURATION: 1:05:02 Oh sweet Freckles. Every runner periodically has a day that just doesn't go their way. After taking your little brother out for a quick jaunt and bathroom break, Freckles shot like a cannonball out her front door. She raced and sniffed and raced again. The paths were quiet and dry and we were having a really great time until... splat. The first spit was more like a hiccup, but we immediately slowed regardless. The second was a full display of upset stomach. Well, that earned Freckles an immediate walk home. The third time it struck, we sat for a moment to be sure we didn't need to call for help. I think Freckles decided that a cool drink of snow sufficed. And after a clean-up in her foyer and a lengthy ear scratch to be sure the drama was over, I left my running partner, feeling sorry that we didn't have more fun. Running is supposed to be the best part of our day. I'm sorry that Freckles didn't share that enthusiasm. Feel better, sweet girl. The scoop: Archie had 1 poop, 2 pees. Freckles had 1 poop, 8 pees. FRECKLES: 3.61 km DURATION: 35:49 Today, I had the pleasure of seeing Archie! It’s been awhile and you are much taller than I remember! As per Freckles and Archie's 'mom's request, we split our time evenly between these two darling dogs. Archie and I walked the pond and enjoyed having the whole area to ourselves. Birds and cats piqued Archie’s interest, but he has excellent recall. When you say his name you get immediate attention. Freckles not so much!😂🤪 Frecks wanted to make an off-leash wiener dog her lunch today! As Mr. Long-body ran towards us, I asked the owner to not let him run at Freckles. No luck. I guess she thought they could play. Situation adverted, I closely hugged Frecks until the Wiener was gone. Everyone survived. All in all, we had a fun adventure. Thanks Guys! Enjoy your day! Archie had 4 pees, no poops. Freckles had 1 poop, 5 pees. Runner: Audra |
