DGR RUN OF THE DAY #1 ![]() DISTANCE: 5.5 km DURATION: 1 hour 2 minutes Good morning Brock and Teacup! It was a pleasure to see you again. It has been so long since I took you out for a walk. How sweet! You look as fabulous and happy as always! 😃 I could hear pooches barking from my car and I could feel their anticipation.. But then “oh what is happening? Where is Aunty Michelle? Well, Aunty Michelle asked me to take you out this morning but I promise I will try very hard to be as much fun as she is.😃👏 Brock hasn’t changed. His favourite show is “Rabbit TV” as I remember. He was so hilarious. I could see his cute little ears going left and right nonstop in search of the “beast”.. Teacup was more about smelling things here and there. We went for a few loops in the park! We had a nice outing. Teagan tried to convince me that she could go home earlier. Nice try young lady 😂 💕 The Scoop - both kiddos had a poo and 2 pees each. Wow, how the time flew with Aoife’s new summertime friends that came to stay with us for 10 days. Brock & Tegan stayed last fall with us, but something BIG was different this time. We introduced Aoife, our newest family member, a 10-week old Irish Wolfhound Pup to them. There could not have been any better dogs, to be Aoife’s first time friends. Tegan was the favourite because her quiet nature was so gentle but also she was a great mother figure to teach and play with our young pup. These two played tug o' war and chase which Tegan's wisdom of standing still and making Aoife do all the work was brilliant. Brock was like the grandpa figure. He would let Aoife share his space and bed when it was nap time. It was so cute, because Aoife knew she had a cuddle partner for naps. Brock was the parent who also took on the night shift. If there was a peep from the crate, Brock went to her side to make sure she was okay and that we ‘humans’ got up for her. We older humans & canines hit Nosehill a couple of times and had daily walks around the neighbourhood. I do think the bed-time walk, when the pup got to join the pack seemed to be the most enjoyable for our doggy visitors. Brock and Tegan, we ALL miss you already. I hope that you can pack your suitcases soon as our door is alway open.
Pet Sitter: Michelle ![]() DISTANCE: 4.34 km DURATION: 1:00:00 Hello Tegan and Brock, long time no see! When I was in the crazy traffic jam near your home, I realized I was with Tracy years ago for one of your DGR runs. Well, we have all gotten a little bit older, but we all look great! Cheers to aging gracefully! Slow and steady with many breaks was the name of the game today. We didn’t go far, but we sure had a good time. Brock is so happy to be outside, and Tegan wanted a siesta in the grass! The duo did get tired easily, which makes me think they need more time with DGR to get their summer bodies back. Tegan had 1 poop, 4 pees. Brock had 1 poop, 5 pees. Runner; Audra I had the privilege of pet sitting these two love-bugs for the past week. What gems they both are!! Brock the Boxer or ’Brock Babes’ my pet name for him or ’Broccoli’ as my husband called him. Brock knew when he heard my husband talking to him that it was treat time😊. Miss Tegan, the quiet soul, also had pet names. ’Teggy Teeg’ was used for cuddles and belly rubs. ’Tiki Teak Run Run’ was used on our runs and she enjoyed being in the lead. This gal enjoys her outdoor time!! We had some great adventures trail running; running through new neighbourhoods and checking out all the local dog spots in the NW. I must admit my favourite time was when we had snuggles and TV time. Who wouldn't enjoy the attention & affection of two great dogs?! We miss you guys already!
Pet Sitter: Michelle ![]() DISTANCE: 6.38 km DURATION: 1:05:14 I had a lovely run with my two new furry friends. Today was my first time running with Brock and Tegan. First, I was welcomed in the most vocal way I could ever imagine. Brock could be one amazing singer.. haha. This pair of happy doggies started with a lot of energy. Brock showed a keen interest in “Rabbits TV." Each time he saw a rabbit, nothing could distracted him from it. Since it was my first time in the neighbourhood, I counted on my friends to show me the area, and they were good guides. They even showed my a doggy park nearby. We enjoyed trotting all around it. Today, we were very lucky weather-wise. When I thought it would be so hot, it ended up being cloudy with a nice breeze! The kids came back home happy and went for a big drink. Brock had 2 poops; the second one was looser then the first one. He also had 4 pees. Tegan had a poo and 2 pees. Runner: Fab ![]() DISTANCE: 6.22 km DURATION: 1:00:33 There were two very happy dogs today. Brock was bounding with energy. I couldn't find Tegan's collar nor harness, so I used Brock's collar on her instead. We started off running fast, Tegan was a different dog...but this didn't last long. There was a lot of fast running, then a lot of sniffing and rolling, and a lot of big pooping and peeing today. Two each, and of course at different times. Once the clouds cleared, the sun felt hot. I had a small water bottle for Brock as he gets hot and thirsty very quickly, and he gulped this down on the way out. On the way back, I spotted a fresh puddle of water. The dogs did too, as they quickly steered me over to it and enjoyed drinking and walking through it. As we did an out and back route today, we were quicker on the return run, so I spent the extra time letting Tegan roll around in the green space. She really enjoyed this. Good fun had by all. Scoop: 2 big poops each and lots of pees. Runner: Cath ![]() DISTANCE: 7.27 km DURATION: 1:05:51 Good morning Brock and Tegan. Wow, there’s a lot of construction around your home. I have an idea! Let’s take a field trip to Fish Creek! They thought this was a brilliant idea. Tegan, of course, had to sniff around and suss things out to begin. And Brock, well, he’s pretty easy going with everything that comes his way. Eventually, we were earning those sniff breaks with some fast trail running interspersed between breaks. Other breaks were for some creek wading and duck chasing. These two had a ton of fun as can be seen by their smiles at the end. Thanks for the fun run. Scoop: one poop and a couple pees for each. Runner: Tammy ![]() DISTANCE: 8.81 km DURATION: 1:09:11 Perfect running conditions today - not too hot and not too windy. Tegan and Brock were really easy to get organized today, with Tegan being super friendly to me. We started running well, but when Tegan did a few rolls in the park I didn't know whether this was going to be a run or a jog/roll day? I soon managed to get her going again. Brock was eager to run. He was setting a nice pace. Once we got to Anderson Road, with all the traffic, Tegan was a bit reluctant to continue on. She doesn't seem to like going on a route that she isn't familiar with, but I was determined to make it to Fish Creek today. Brock was giving her those "hurry up" looks. He has to be a patient male with this lady. Once we made it across Anderson Road, all was great. Tegan had a steady pace for most of the run. We made it to Fish Creek and we set a new record of nearly 9km. I tried to run around the street a bit further to get to the 9km mark, but Tegan was having none of that, so 8.8km it was today. Scoop - 1 poop each. Runner: Cath ![]() DISTANCE: 7.23 km DURATION: 1:02:49 Good morning Brock and Tegan! And what a beautiful morning it was for a run! This time it was Brock the Barker when I arrived and Tegan was as quiet as a mouse? The first bit of our run, Tegan wasn’t into it at all. All she wanted to do was lay around on the grass and roll! Eventually, we got moving a little faster and we had a lovely time exploring the neighbourhood. We went a little further north and kind of got stuck in a park.... there was just no way to get out of it! That’s OK because there was a lot to sniff in that park! As we made our way back home Tegan picked up the pace.... and practically lead the way. I think she was excited to get home and back in the cool house and have a big drink of water. Thanks you two and stay cool! The Scoop: both pups had #1’s and #2’s. Runner: Nancy ![]() DISTANCE: 7.02 km DURATION: 58 minutes "Hey you two, what's happened?" There were only a few barks and those sounded more like excited barks today. When I opened the door, Tegan came out with her tail wagging!! Brock may have also, but it's harder to tell with a Boxer. Sorry, no car ride today. Let's explore the neighbourhood. Wow, there was so much construction happening. I wanted to run to Fish Creek Park, but Tegan also wanted to do a bit of rolling in the grass, so we didn't make it that far. Whilst running, Brock was panting, so we stopped and he enjoyed sharing my water. Further on, some dogs barked behind a large fence. Brock and Tegan pulled me to an abrupt halt so that they could try to see the dogs. I'm so glad they did. A few steps more and the three of us would have most likely got run over by a garbage truck that came driving way too fast out of the alleyway on the other side of the fence. What a close call. Thanks, Tegan and Brock. Overall, a great run, sun & fun. The Scoop: Tegan had 1 poop, 2 pees. Brock had 1 poop, 3 pees. Runner: Cath ![]() DISTANCE: 7.77 km DURATION: 1 hour 6 minutes Well hello Tegan and Brock. It was a pleasure to meet you both today! I had read a few other dog blog posts about your previous running adventures, so I was expecting a bit of barking when I met you Tegan, but you really didn’t bark that much! Once you guys checked me out and I got you leashed up, we headed off. I’m not sure how, but I accidentally paused my running app while we were running.... The map looks like we somehow flew across the neighbourhood for a short distance. Haha. I assure you, there was no flying on our run but there was plenty of sniffing. Brock was more energetic than Tegan today so we did some walking and some running just to keep everybody happy. Brock stopped at a sprinkler and cooled off a little and Tegan wasn’t interested in doing the same. Tegan opted for rolling in the grass instead; we all have our preferences! The most exciting part of our run was the great cat encounter. In my experience, cats turn and bolt when they see a dog headed their way. Not this orange tabby cat. He stood his ground and Brock wasn’t even sure what to do with himself! There was a long stare down until the cat turned and sauntered away, which made Brock shake with excitement and let out a few barks. Thanks for the company today Brock and Tegan. Stay cool! The Scoop: several pees by both, 1 poop each. Runner: Nancy ![]() DISTANCE: 6.89 km DURATION: 56 minutes Oh my, bark bark bark. Hello to you too Tegan! And of course to you as well Mr. Brock. The rain has yet to start so let's get out there. These two ran beautifully down the alley. It felt like we were about to have a great run... And then... we came upon the first patch of grass. Whoa, where'd Tegan go? She was rolling, and rolling, and rolling. It must have felt like an aqua nature massage, because even after I convinced her to get up, down she'd go again. Our pace was literally less than half a km every 5 minutes. Brock was mostly patient through all of this. Other than a brief moment where he thought it'd be fun to play with the leash while he waited for his sidekick. Right when I embraced the idea of a 4km outing, Tegan decided, enough grass massages, I'm ready to run. Boom, just like that we made it to the edge of South Glenmore Park. It was like another runner said yesterday, never judge a run by the first or second kilometre because the three of us had a great run today! The Scoop: 1 poop and 2-3 pees each. Runner: Tammy ![]() DISTANCE: 8.45 DURATION: 1 hour 4 minutes Today was my fourth and final day running Tegan & Brock, so I planned a fun Friday. Brock was more "talkative" than Tegan today. Tegan was playing shy and kept disappearing. She seemed a little tired. Once organized, they happily jumped into my station wagon again, I then drove to the Glenmore Reservoir/Weaselhead parking lot. I had planned a route last night, but then became a bit reluctant to run this way when the Calgary Police issued a statement seeking public assistance about a sexual attack in this area last Friday. I decided not to worry as I had these two "guard" dogs with me. I honestly think if the attacker came near us three, he would have come off second best!! We had an amazing run, exploring the trails and river. The weather was beautiful and warm, and we all enjoyed happily running past walkers, cyclists, and other dogs. Have a great weekend. The Scoop: Tegan had 1 poop, 2 pees. Brock had 2 poops, lots of pees. Runner: Cath ![]() DISTANCE: 6.04 km DURATION: 52 minutes Tegan is an amazing guard dog, I even got some snarling this morning. I just opened the door, talked to her, and waited until she was happy for me to go inside. Having said that, she was also happy for me to kidnap (dognap?) her. I asked her to jump into my car. I've been in Calgary nearly seven years, and this was the first opportunity and privilege to have dogs in my car. Brock & Tegan were so excited as I drove them to Fish Creek Park (traffic lights and residential streets are so boring). What fun we had!! Tegan showed me today that she does have some speed. I also have noticed that she prefers to run on the grass, so we hit the trails. Brock loved that we made the most of the river and we spent lots of time getting wet feet. It felt like we were on a camping holiday. When we got home the Council sweep cleaners were in the street, so I parked in the back alley. I gave the dogs a good wipe off and a treat. Looking forward to more fun tomorrow. Tegan had 1 poop, 3 pees. Brock had 2 poops, 2 pees. Runner: Cath ![]() DISTANCE: 6.50 km DURATION: 1 hour I'm always very excited, but a bit apprehensive, about running new dogs. I love reading the blogs prior and studying Google maps to plan a route to run. I knew Tegan may take a little while to warm up to me and when I arrived she started barking. I was able to let Brock out of the house and asked him to "let's go potty". He ran to the back of the yard and shortly after returned. What a good boy. I gave him a treat and put on his harness and the leash. Meanwhile, Tegan was watching through the glass door and quietening down. I opened the door and reassured her, then gave her a treat once she was quiet...and that was that. We were able to have a fabulous jog/walk/run/sniff...lie down. The lilacs in the streets smelled beautiful. The sun was out, making the dogs hot, so we took it easy. Brock enjoyed a big puddle in an alleyway, but I forget to stand back when he was finished...Boxer's slobber lol. I hope Tegan remembers what fun we had and greets me nicely tomorrow. Tegan had 1 poop, 1 pee. Brock had 3 poops, 1 pee. Runner: Cath |
