I was greeted by one bark and a long sniff and then Reilly accepted me as her runner today! What a beautiful demeanour! She patiently sat while I attached her to my waist. Not being familiar with Montgomery, I didn’t venture too far from her home. Although I must say, we zigged and zagged all over the community! For every hill we happily went down; we slowly went back up! Reilly had a few stare-offs with some well camouflaged rabbits and a silly squirrel. Her leash behaviour was wonderful. As we passed other dogs in their yards suntanning (lazy pups!), Reilly happily looked over but kept very focused. We met a nice man who took our picture and told me what a beautiful and gentle girl Reilly is! When we returned home, I made the mistake of unclipping Reilly before going inside. She decided she wanted to lay in the dirt behind the bush. Good thing we climbed all those hills, The treats were needed to convinced her inside was the place to relax! Thanks for showing me around Reilly! Scoop: 1 poop, 4 pees. Runner: Cayley

![]() DISTANCE: 6.50 km DURATION: 1 hour 6 minutes Hurray! Hurray! It's Thursday and a crisp cool morning outing with Abby & Reilly. Well Girlfriends, what can I say about today? Yes, it was cold and all that jazz but we three are sooo Canadian🇨🇦 and proudly so. We head out in -24C (including windchill) and merrily hit the pathways and do our shuffle-jog-run-walk combination and ENJOY IT! That's right, 'Good Morning Greetings' to all and truly happy to be out. A & R had a couple slow down moments for snowball removal from the paws but we immediately were back on the path. 😊🐾 Hope you both have an afternoon snooze, I'm on my way to Tim Hortons (oh so Canadian, eh?) The Doggy Business Report: Abby had 1 pee. Reilly had 1 poop, several pees. Runner: Michelle ![]() DISTANCE: 4.35 km DURATION: 1:00:37 Hello Girlfriends!😊 Who's that in the kitchen window doing dishes?? Hey, that's Reilly standing on her hind legs in front of the kitchen sink, looking out the window at me. I had to take a second look because at first I really thought someone was doing the dishes😂. Today Abby had her mind made up contrary to what everyone else thought would be best. See poor Abby has been under the weather and the plan was to let her outside and get some fresh air while Reilly and I went for a run. Abby was not having any part of that, SHE was going out too!! So today we all had a nice walk and a little jogging here and there. Abby was front and center, never missing a beat or hop or skip. Nor did she miss any bunny nuggets!! Reilly was really good, for she had lots of fuel to go but was totally enjoying that we all were out together. The Doggy Business: Abby had 1 long pee and one runny poop. Reilly had 1 poop and several pees. Runner: Michelle ![]() DISTANCE: 6.79 km DURATION: 1:00:57 H & M are back together! Yahoo!🎉🐶👍. That's right folks, Huxley & Michelle have reunited for another tour, well a few tours in Tuscany anyways. Huxley, you are just like this bear that I could hug all day long, but you have grown and filled out. So I should make a correction and say this 'Big Bear'. Huxley's ever so sweet personality is still the same and even though it has been awhile since we hit the trails together you are still as brilliant as ever. I was so looking forward to spending time with you and we even hit the off-road trails of 12 mile coulee; just like old times. The last photo is the look I got when I was leaving and Huxley was staying at home.... I almost scooped him up and took him home with me😉. The Doggy Business: about 8 pees, that's it. Runner: Michelle ![]() DISTANCE: 7.69 km DURATION: 1:04:56 Gooood morning Girlfriends! Sorry I had to miss Tuesday's outing😪. What's that you say? Oh you both had a fun time with Sheri (DGR runner) on Tuesday.🎉 I'm so glad you had a 'Girlfriend' run, oh and she carried treats. Well I see what's going on. 😊 Abby & Reilly seemed happy to see me, Reilly especially. So during 'Belly Bellies' for Abby and me on the ground, Reilly wanted to be part of this affection and came barreling over to slide in between me and Abby. This full on run-in turned into one good head butt between Reilly and me. So I promised her rubs later. Let's do our pond route, breathe in some of that fresh crisp air and enjoy our time together running. Mission achieved with great success today. See you later alligators. The Doggy Business: Abby 1 & 1 and Reilly 1 poop and just a few pees today. Runner: Michelle DISTANCE: 8.35 km DURATION: 1:03:43
Part way through my run with Abby and Reilly this morning, I really felt like I was in the middle of a girls night out. Ok, ok so it was a morning out, but all the other usual elements were there. 1) Great shoes - on me, absolutely! 2) Great food - ok so I didn't eat anything, but Abby and Reilly seemed to really enjoy the occasional snack from my magic pocket. 3) Little bit of dancing - LOL, again that was me as I periodically kicked and spun to untwist my two companions after our sniff breaks. 4) Lost in a good time - it was impossible to not love the morning sun on some of the most peaceful trails I've seen in Calgary. What a beautiful place to run. It was very nice to meet you, Abby and Reilly. Thanks for the perfect morning. The scoop: Abby 3 pees, 1 poop - Reilly 9 pees, 1 poop. Runner: Sheri ![]() DISTANCE: 8.35 km DURATION: 1:18:39 Good Morning Girlfriends😊. It's a cooler morning which is nice. Let's see what's 'shakin' in Scenic Acres. We all like the trails over there, especially because there is a nice downhill portion. We made our way over and met an older lady who was taking her pooch out and she was rather upset because she had found 3 poops that had been left by 'irresponsible' dog owners. She needed to vent, we listened and I must agree it makes it yucky for all the 'responsible' doggy people. Must keep moving, so Scenic Acres bound we were. In the small green space there were 3 dogs (off-leash) that wanted to join our running pack, lucky for us they had good recall and when their owners called them they all turned around. But at first sight, 3 loose dogs running towards us (me + A & R who are attached) my heart started to beat a wee bit faster😳. All turned out fine. Lots was 'shakin' in Scenic Acres today! Today's photos are all courtesy of treats. I'm for sure not the Treat Queen, but I tried it out to get different shots of Abby & Reilly. The Doggy Business: Abby 2 pees and Reilly 2 poops (picked up of course) and lots of pees. Runner: Michelle ![]() DISTANCE: 6.07 km DURATION: 1:01:34 I promised the girls to have better running conditions than our Thursday slip 'n' slide run. Well, what better place than Nosehill Park to go for a run. Oh my, when I said Nosehill, Reilly jumped around like crazy. The kinda funny thing was that Abby just rolled over wanting belly rubs and Reilly was dancing the happy dance on top of her😂. I left the back hatch open and as soon as A & R got out of the back gate they launched themselves into the back of my vehicle. Needless to say, they were pumped. Today was fun! We did no paved pathways only dirt trails and a bit of freelancing (mud, snow, puddles, dirt and ice). Abby & Reilly alternated time off-leash so I think it is very safe to say Reilly did about 8.5K and Abby about 8K. That may explain why when we reached the parking lot and I wanted to do at least 1 more kilometer Abby just stopped, looked at my vehicle and would not move. I tried a few tricks but no Abby had enough for today. You both did excellent! The Doggy Business Report: Abby 1 poop & 2 pees. Reilly 1 poop and many pees. Runner: Michelle ![]() DISTANCE: 7.64 km DURATION: 1:11:59 Good Morning Abby & Reilly! Are you ready for an adventure? When I said this to the girls I had no idea what was in store😳. We hit the pathway this morning and if you had the chance to have a bird's eye view of our comedy show, I am sure it was hilarious!! The pathway was pure black ice and it took us 20 minutes to do the first kilometer. We would take a step forward and slip and slide and move left and then right and backwards. Poor Reilly was pulling us just to get us forward. At the end of the first kilometer she stopped and would not pull anymore. Abby & I had to 'pull our own weight' for the rest of this outing!! Miss Abby found this rather challenging because she was not as sure-footed as Reilly. When we finally got home both girls were tired and I must admit I felt a bit spent too. Girls, I promise to make it up to you both on Tuesday. The Doggy Business: Abby 1 pee and Reilly 1 poop and several pees. Runner: Michelle ![]() DISTANCE: 7.88 km DURATION: 1:10:20 Happy Valentine's Day Girlfriends! Today was a great run. We did not worry about time, distance, speed or anything. There are days when it is best to just go with the flow. Both Abby & Reilly knew it was a special day and were full of kisses and hugs. Even on bad hair days (like today for me), they love to get out and have selfies taken. When we got back to the house we all were mucky so after I finished wiping Reilly down she came back to me gave me a little nudge and wanted more close time and belly rubs. Aww! Reilly is becoming very affectionate. Abby straight out washes your face with kisses; she is not shy at all. The Doggy Business: Abby 1 long pee and Reilly 1 poop and several pees. Runner: Michelle ![]() DISTANCE: 6.63 DURATION: 1:04:40 It was very fortuitous that last night at my Foster Home Orientation with AARCS we brushed up on 'Doggy Body Language and Behavior'. This morning shortly after leaving Abby & Reilly's home we encountered a Black Lab that caused some excitement. Abby got growly with him and her body got lower and her ears went back. Reilly's hair on her back stood straight up and she wanted to get far away from him. Our 4 legged friends tell us a lot with how they are feeling through their body. As we settled into our run and shook off the negative energy from that Black Lab. we met up with our ever faithful Bernese who waits at the gate for us to go by. Both Abby & Reilly are cool with him and they give him a hello. I have a soft spot for Bernese and I just want to let him come with us. He always looks at you as if saying "take me running too". Our pace was slower but our run was a success and we only stopped and walked a few times to correct pulling. There is a photo of Reilly and she looks so proud of herself and she should be. Our slower pace aided to our success of a soft bow in the lead. She received much praise for a job well done plus a swing around Bunny Nugget Hill. Abby loves this spot, it is her Candyland. The Business Report: Abby 1 poop and Reilly 1 poop & a few pees. Runner: Michelle ![]() DISTANCE: 7.77 km DURATION: 1:15:57 This morning was a brisk cool morning and our outing was packed with learning lessons, some great behaviour and some moments where we had to all remember to take deep breaths. Reilly has always had lots of 'giddy up' at the beginning of our runs but for the past little while her pulling has created some challenges. Today, especially with the ice, it came to a point that we were actually working against each other so that is not fun for her or me. So I tried something, as soon as she would pull hard forward I would stop and walk, within 5 seconds she was walking beside me with this totally relaxed lead. We did this exercise for about 4.5 kms and by that time when I would stop before I started to walk she came and sat down beside me. She is such a smart dog. The remainder of the outing she did not pull hard or suddenly. During these lessons, three times we encountered dogs with their owner that passed us on the pathway. Usually we pull off to the side to prevent uneasy encounters. All 3 times A & R just kept their focus on me. Reilly would give a little whimper that there are dogs coming. Fantastic job. Abby & Reilly like school😊. Abby was actually only partially in attendance, she was also bunny nugget shopping for most of our outing. The Doggy Business: Abby 1 poop and Reilly 2 poops with several pees Runner: Michelle ![]() DISTANCE: 8.01 km DURATION: 1:05:56 Hello.....It's Tuesday isn't it?🤔 The first time ever I have entered and surprised Abby & Reilly with my arrival. When Reilly realized that I was there she feverishly ran to look for a shoe, and then stood right in front of the door so I wouldn't forget her!! Oh, what do I do?! I had to hunt for Abby and after a couple of minutes she sheepishly strolled down the stairs. I am not sure if she was just waking up or was into something that will be discovered later by her humans😉. We hit Baker Park and our timing was really good with respect to the Weather Gods. As we finished our run the wind started to pick up. Our distance was just 250 meters off 8K when we hit A & R's home. "Girls let just run a smidgen more and go to the end of the block." Abby put the brakes on. If she could talk she would have said 'Hey Michelle you just passed our house!' Reilly was like 'No problem for me.' Thanks girls for going the 8🐾. The Doggy Business: Abby 1 & 1 and Reilly 1 poop and several pees. Runner: Michelle ![]() DISTANCE: 8.33 km DURATION: 1:08:29 Happy 1 Year Anniversary Abby & Reilly🎉🎇. That's right Girlfriends, one year ago today we had our first run (with a bit of bush whacking too). We also had special guest Ruth, one of the DGR boss ladies join us that day. I am a big believer in celebrating everything, the big things and all the little things. Our celebratory run had a few new twists and turns to it. Plus we threw in some ice and compact snow but the outcome was as brilliant as ever. Did we have a good one?? Woof Woof, Bow Wow and 'You bet' (the human voice) all proclaimed.😊 And never forget tradition too, belly bellies for Miss Abby (who now just drops and rolls over as the door opens). The shoe greeting from Reilly which was a slipper, that's a new one! Must make mental note - do not run A & R with red mittens.....Abby wants to eat them. So another game of grab the red mitten, don't let go and be as still as a stone. We celebrated in all sorts of ways😉. Doggy Business: Abby had 2 pees and Reilly had 1 poop & a few pees Runner: Michelle ![]() DISTANCE: 8.32 km DURATION: 1:14:08 Well if today's run was a day at the horse races and you were a betting person it would have been a nail biter 😳. Straight out of the door, Reilly, aka 'White Lightening' takes the lead and with some icy conditions she still is feverishly in the lead. Then Miss Abby keeps her rock steady pace and pulls up from behind to take the lead as we enter Scenic Acres. Both Abby & Reilly are neck 'n' neck at the half way point. As for me I'm the long shot - a million to one😉, thinking this should be interesting. Then it is the 3/4 mark on the track and we shift terrain, packed ice but still doable. Reilly slows down, Abby has stopped to sniff the snow and I have taken the lead. The spectators can not believe it!! We hit our favourite hill home, 'round the bend and it is Abby & me, side by side and swish Reilly sees a Bernese Mountain Dog and she has the lead for a short period of time and draws back. Last 500 meters and the girls let me keep the lead. 🐾 I'm feeling lucky, maybe I need to get a lottery ticket. Doggy Business Report: Abby 1 & 1 and Reilly 1 poop and several pees. Runner: Michelle |
