DGR RUN OF THE DAY # 2 ![]() DISTANCE: 2.8 km DURATION: 59 minutes Happy Halloween Kacie, Kai and Pinky! I always wondered what dogs think of Halloween; a bunch of people in costumes, doorbells ringing nonstop, even some are dressed up by their owners. This morning’s walk sure felt warmer than a normal October 31st in Calgary. The four of us meandered around the park, enjoying the beautiful sun as it continued to rise. We wandered for a while before finding ourselves back on a proper trail. There were mostly only large dogs at the park today, one ran up to Kaiser hoping to get a game of chase started. Kai ignored the dog (as he often does when there is a ball in his mouth), however, Pink was eager to take Kaiser’s place and ran around with the large dog instead. We had a blast today and I am so grateful for these three for getting me moving in the morning. The scoop: 1 poop, 4 pees for Kacie, 1 poop, 8 pees for Pink, & 5 pees for Kai. Runner: Jaime

Above are some of our Halloween photos. Our dogs were out and about picking out the best Halloween decorations. Have a wonderful Fright Night! Remember to keep your pups away from all those candies!
DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 4.9 km DURATION: 1 hour 18 minutes It was a ’Spooktacular Pooch Party’ this morning Trick or Treating in Tuscany!!! Ennis, Marley and Huxley bolted out of the jeep - let's get this Halloween Party started 🤣. We started our festivities early!! They all had so much fun together it was like they were kids on a sugar high. This ’pack’ is one cool group. That was spectacular! Let's make another date soon. Ennis, Marley and Hux will rest up this afternoon and be ready to Halloween full on tonight. The Scoop: 3 poos, 13 pees. Runner: Michelle DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 9.1 km DURATION: 1 hour 24 minutes I’m titling today’s adventure “SOG”! What pray tell does this stand for you ask? Sniff n’ jog to be exact! With so many delicious spells out there today, Mira couldn’t just couldn’t fill up her nasal sensory power fast enough! With the slightly warmer temps today, I thought the off-leash area would be packed but to my surprise it wasn’t. We headed for a safe zone to free range so there was less chance of running into a coyote carnival. We then made our way back with a short trail and a bit of bushwhacking (lost the trail). Thanks for a delightful adventure Mira! You are a sweetie pie! 1 poo and many pees today. Cheers! Runner: Tracy DGR RUN OF THE DAY #2 ![]() DISTANCE: 3.7 km DURATION: 57 minutes I had coffee with fast moving particles in my hand at the beginning of our walk today. As Jasper and I walked, the temperature made those fast moving coffee particles turn into not-so-fast moving coffee particles. Whenever I took my gloves off to take a picture, the same thing happened to my hand particles. I wanted to take pictures because it was one gorgeous October morning! Jasper and I made our way across the ridge, then we made a detour to throw out my coffee cup (which now had no coffee particles in it), and continued over the bridge towards the hospital. We followed some footprints on a narrow trail that led us close to the water. The sound of the water washing up on the rocky shore was soothing, so we stayed for a little bit. We followed a different trail with an outstanding view leading back up to the path. Great job today Jasper! The Scoop: 2 pees. Runner: Ryan Kona, Winter & Scott Find the Best Halloween Decorations in Auburn Bay and Donations go to AARCS!10/29/2019 DGR RUN OF THE DAY #1 ![]() DISTANCE: 7.2 km DURATION: 1 hour How do you find the best decorations with Kona and Winter? I will start off by saying how much of a difference it makes having no wind as today was way more enjoyable for Kona, Winter, and me. Last week. I said we would save the best decorations until closer to Halloween so today was the day. We found spiders bigger than Kona, a cat that Winter did not like at all and some spooky witches cooking up trouble. We went to the best decorated house in Auburn Bay. The owner used to be an imagineer at a California theme park so day-time pictures don’t even do full justice for it but the cool thing he does is ask for donations to a charity as a thank you for his hard work. This year he chose AARCS which us dog lovers can probably appreciate. I even took Winter over to see the decorations in our tree, including that creepy doll I wish had blown away in the wind yesterday. We had a great run today and both pups seemed to have a great time and were pretty pooped by the end of their turn. The Scoop: 1 pee for Winter. Runner: Scott DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 7.4 km DURATION: 52 minutes What a difference a few days make! Friday we were in t-shirts and +17, but today we had 2 jackets and -10C. Rossi wasn't too worried about the cold snap though and was bounding straight out the door and down the street. We had a nice smooth run through the streets to the off-leash park. Rossi was so full of energy when I unleashed him that he took off like a cannonball! Somebody must have let the secret out about how good Karl Baker Park is because there was a lot traffic there again today. Rossi approached a dog on leash (while I was picking up his poo) and to my relief he had a good sniff and then became playful with the dog. Phew! This is the first time I've seen him interact with a dog off-leash so I'm quietly optimistic we can stop avoiding dogs in the off-leash in the future. Given I was 50m away when all this happened, I was very happy when I called him to come and he came hurtling towards me with a big grin on his face! We enjoyed a good run through the park still before heading over to the hospital and on to the pond. The wind really picked up as we were crossing the bridge over 16th. Rossi's ears were being blown all over the place and my cheeks were stinging, we were running straight into to the wind. At one point, Rossi turned to look at me as if to say "Why are we out here?!" Ha ha. We had a record fast trip around the pond as there were no ducks out to say hi to and I think Rossi was keen to get back to the sofa. Motivated by the thought of warmth, Rossi picked up the pace on the way back. He ran so fast I had to extend our run to make sure he got enough exercise in. He wasn't overly impressed by this but all was forgiven when we were back in the door and I had the treats in my hand. Great run today Rossi! The Scoop: Runner: Allison DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 9 km DURATION: 60 minutes We started off in a hurry. We strode along the path to the Stampede Grounds. We even ran within the confines of the area where the barns and such were by the grandstand. It was nice, with the sun still rising a bit. THe sun's orange rays were gleaming on the roofs of said barns. Although we hit a dead end and were a bit stuck, we improvised and figured out how to get out. We ended up by the Calgary Water Plant, and then we continued on our normal path. We saw so many bunnies and rabbits over by Repsol, Lindsey Park and beyond. At one point, we saw what must of been a dozen in a little pack, with one squirrel amongst them. That little rascal, trying to fit in. I guess we all try to in our lives, but to be different and unique is to be celebrated. It was a 9 km run and not our fastest. I had to stop a few times, but all in all, it was a good run. The Scoop: 3 pees, 2 poos. Runner: Alejandro We had a fun few days with regular runs for Sully and trips around the block for Kenny Although the weather did take a turn for the worst the past few days we still got out and about. Biggles even had a little time in the backyard!
Kenny had his pretty easy, regular trips around the block kept him regular! He ate well and seems to have pretty good energy giving Sully a run for his money when he wanted to wrestle! He wasn't overly fond of the back steps, especially the past 2 days as they were very slippery so I took him out the front instead. Kenny didn't always join us in the room at night, sleeping downstairs instead. However, he always had energy in the morning to join the wake up crew! It's quite something to be woken up before 6am with 2 dogs staring at you and wagging their tails and a cat meowing for his breakfast! Ha ha! Sully was super well behaved, after we sorted out the dominance issue. He was very responsive whenever I called him and was a great little running partner. He was good with sitting before crossing the road, and before he got his dinner, though I did have to stop him from eating Kenny's leftovers a few times! We managed to get him and Kenny brushed and he seemed to quite like it! Man, there was a lot of hair that came off the boys! Mr Biggles seemed to be good. He was eating a bit less wet food for 2 days but seemed to be back on track this past day. I love that he is sat there waiting patiently for his breakfast each day. I did make the mistake one day of serving his food and scooping his poop when he wasn't there and turned around to find Sully nose deep in it! Ninja dog!! What a fun time with this crew! Pet Sitter: Allison DGR RUN OF THE DAY # 2 ![]() DISTANCE: 8.5 km DURATION: 1 hour 37 minutes Good morning pooches! Did you see that beautiful sunrise outside? Shadow, let’s go and see it. Driving over I couldn’t believe how amazing that sunrise was. It was probably one of the most incredible ones I have seen. I took a picture but this is the kind where you have to be there at the right moment. Shadow and Kopek got ready quickly and we went out to the trails. Shadow was a very happy puppy for the first half. He played and ran with his friend but then he quieted down a bit, dragging himself at the back... Hmmm, this is not the Shadow I know. So we slowed down and sure enough, Shadow got sick. I could see some little pieces of branches in there. Too much stick chewing. Shadow was a happy pup when he came back home, so this is a good news. The Girls went right after and as always. they had a little leisurely stroll. Today was an amazing day temperature wise as well. The Scoop: Shadow had 2 poops and many pees. The Girls all had a poo and few pees each. Runner: Fab DGR RUN OF THE DAY #1 ![]() DISTANCE: 7.7 km DURATION: 60 minutes Frankie says relax! Who turned up the heat? I don't think Rossi or I expected it to be so warm today so it took us a while to hit our stride. Once Rossi got a sniff of the off-leash park he was into the rhythm of things though and was bounding this way and that. It turns out someone turned up the heat in the dog park today too as there were dogs in every direction we turned. We still got a good run in but certainly missed having the place to ourselves 😉. Running in the 'heat' was thirsty work so we headed down to the river for a long drink. I was quite impressed with how Rossi responded to my voice commands and also didn't react when seeing other dogs, he was happy running along; tongue flapping in the wind. We ran a nice relaxed pace along the river path up to the crossing at Memorial and Shaganappi where we were stopped and waited for the lights to change. When the walk sign changed, there was a man on a bike who crossed with us, Rossi thought he might try to keep up! He set off up the hill at break-neck speed, we were doing 3.45 km's at one point and all I could think was "Frankie says relax!!!!!" 😳😵 Had I not been strapped to him there's no way I could have kept up!! Needless to say, we were both breathing pretty hard when we arrived back on the door step! The Scoop: 7 pees, 1 poo. Runner: AllisonUse ⌘ + scroll to zoom the map I had the pleasure of hanging out with Kacie, Kaiser and Pink this week and it was a blast! These three have their own distinct personalities and it's so fun playing with them, and seeing how they interact with each other. Kaiser seems to have gotten more snuggly since the last time I stayed over, and it was nice to cuddle up with him while watching TV. Every now and again he'd surprise me with a big juicy kiss on the chin. He had a blast playing ball, and likes to crunch around in the piles of leaves, just like a little kid! Kacie, the house protector, is always close by and has the most fantastic purr when being pet! She loves her veggie desserts after mealtimes, and may have been able to score an extra one here and there. She also loves to sleep, and needs a bit of encouragement to get her butt out of bed in the mornings. Finally, we have Pink. Pink is small but mighty, and more than holds her own with her much larger siblings. This little one is most content when cuddled up on my lap, or nearly perched on my shoulders. She also loves to rip around after the ball (or perhaps she's just chasing Kaiser?!) and it is a riot to watch as she follows along after Kacie. It was great to have the chance to spend some time with these three again!
Pet Sitter: Christine DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 7.1 km DURATION: 1 hour 44 minutes I woke up feeling like I was hit by a Mack truck rendering me a little useless for running today🤒 So I decided to bring along crazy Gracie to the Mona and Tracy show today. That way I figured these two could run themselves ragged while I followed behind making sure they were well fuelled😜 The three of us partied our way through the pooch park then hit the trails down to the river. We followed the path on the south side until we found the entrance to the Douglas Fir Trail and hopped aboard. Mona cleverly led us up to the streets and back to where it all began. Thanks for being so fantastic Mona! Gracie and I had a blast! P.S. my plan worked as they both passed out on the way home.😁 Cheers! The Scoop: 2 poos, 9 pees. Runner: Tracy DGR RUN OF THE DAY #1 ![]() DISTANCE: 12. 7 km DURATION: 1 hour 13 minutes I was just reading one off my runner’s blog about how his run with the dog was a cure for a bad day. It is funny because my run with Nell was a continuation of an amazing day. I have not had one of those in awhile so I will take it. Nell and I faced a gusty wind on the way out towards the Peace Bridge so we knew we would be rewarded with the 💨 wind pushing us home. We both wore silly 🙃 happy grins on our faces. I was happy to teach a full TRX class this morning and then take DGR dogs Kenny and Sully to my house for a visit. Nell was happy to chase a rollerblader and skateboarder. Life’s simple pleasures! We extended our run because we were having too much fun. Thanks Nellie! The Scoop: 1 poo, 1 pee. Runner: Ruth DGR RUN OF THE DAY #2 ![]() DISTANCE: 9.3 km DURATION: 1 hour 19 minutes Brrrr Kali, it is time for the winter flannels. Today is a resistance training day. No use arguing with Old Mother Nature, she is a blowing!! Even with the wind situation, a taunting squirrel caught Kali’s attention. Kali was focused and in the zone. So much so, we ran right beside a lounging bunny who never moved. We were so close I could have reached down and pat it.😳 Kali wanted that squirrel. I predict one day she will get it🐾🤣. The Scoop: 3 pees. 1 poo. Runner: Michelle |
