DGR RUN OF THE DAY #4 ![]() DISTANCE: 4.2 km DURATION: 32 minutes I was pretty excited to meet this beautiful Australian Shepherd/Retriever X named Lyla today for her trial Dog Gone Running (DGR) run. One word sums up this gal: "Lovely." She also has a sweet sister named Magpie who got some belly rubs and my approval for taking out her sister. Lyla thought our run was all about fun and games so she took ahold of the leash to lead the way. Who is running who? Soon, she released the leash and settled into a steady pace and we headed to check out the activity at the park down the hill. She is so mild mannered and is not bothered by other dogs. She is enthusiastic about squirrels so she showed me how she can sprint when she sees one. We had a nice fall evening outing and even got to see our first Halloween decoration and it is not even October. I like how the photo almost looks like there is a ghost. We look forward to more outings with lovely Lyla! The Scoop: no poops or pees. Runner: Ruth

DGR RUN OF THE DAY #3 ![]() DISTANCE: 2.3 km DURATION: 41 minutes P.I.N.K.Y. Power🐾. I was really looking forward to our outing today. It has been a while since we have had time - Pinky & me together. Miss Pinky was very peppy today. She gave me a very nice greeting. I promised her if we did the hill, she would love the home portion. We made it to the top of the berm and Pinky earned her off-leash time. She had the biggest smile. I was so happy for her and we laughed all the way home. You are such a sweet pea Miss Pinky. The Doggy Business Report: 1 poop (soft) and 4 pees.🐾 Runner: Michelle DGR RUN OF THE DAY #2 ![]() DISTANCE: 8.5 km DURATION: 1 hour 2 minutes Rossi wasn't exactly chomping at the bit to get out the door today. Content to sit in his arm chair, lazily getting up then leaning in for an extended scratch and pet. He was happy to take a casual approach to our run. Once out the door, he attempted a half hearted wrestle then followed his nose down the laneway. We headed over to Karl Baker for some off-leash time. Rossi loved running through the long grass; letting his nose lead him off the trail then come sprinting out to catch up with me. He is such a great dog to photograph at this time of year as his coat and harness blend perfectly with the fall colours. After a good loop of the park, we headed for the river as Rossi's tongue was starting to become a trip hazard. When we got to the water's edge, Rossi wasted no time in jumping in so he could wade while drank. Rossi is always on the look out for new friends and even when we're down at the river he has an ear out for any passing dogs on the path. We had a pretty smooth run back from here with Rossi running alongside me for the most part. He did refuse to move at one point in protest. I would not let him say hello to another dog, whose owner was busy telling me the dog is reactive on leash, but loves Boxers. What a shame! A very pleasant outing with my favourite running buddy today. The Scoop: 6 pees. Runner: Allison DGR RUN OF THE DAY #1 ![]() DISTANCE: 8.5 km DURATION: 1 hour Benji was a little hesitant to start running, so we mixed in a little bit of walking. Once we were far enough away from home, we were running with no issues. We took a little stop at the river for Benji to get a drink of water and we saw a team of kayakers doing some sort of training exercise on the Bow. We continued on towards Edworthy Park, and we were crossing over the railroad when we heard the train coming. We couldn’t see it yet, but we sure could hear it. As soon as it started passing by us, the tremendous sound of it gave us a little shock of excitement. We began to head home after the train had gone. Benji knew it was time to go home which gave him some motivation to run a little faster. Great job today Benj! The Scoop: 1 poop. Runner: Ryan DGR RUN OF THE DAY #3 ![]() DISTANCE: 6.9 km DURATION: 1 hour 4 minutes Good Morning Mr. Conor! Are we ready for our little walk? Conor was ready but we had to chase him a bit as he had a treats in his mouth. Mommy promised he would get them back upon his return. This is probably why Conor was motoring today. He had cookies on his mind so he found extra speed. The fall colours and lighting were so beautiful this morning! I had to find any excuses to stop to take pictures to rest a bit as Conor was on the mission 🤣. I guess people are back into their work routines as we didn’t meet any pooch on the trail. Today was probably one of the most beautiful fall morning and I am glad we got to enjoy it. The Scoop - Conor had a poop and a pee. Runner: Fab DGR RUN OF THE DAY #2 ![]() DISTANCE: 8.5 km DURATION: 1 hour 12 minutes Fall may now officially be my favourite season. Today was pretty special because it was my youngest son's (Eli) first official run with Dog Gone Running. Ollie has stayed at our home before so he was pretty excited that I not only brought his canine friend Teddy but his human friend Eli. The pathways along Stanley Park had a steady flow of people enjoying the fall colours. We let the pups dip their paws in the cool water and get a sip before we made it up our final steep trail hill through River Park. I think we got some good photos but I was hoping to capture the brilliance of the leaves as they whirled around us while running with these gorgeous boys. Luckily, we captured the boys with their Tongues-out Tuesday smiles! I am glad Eli got to experience the fun of running dogs! The Scoop: 1 poo (a bit runny) for Ollie and lots of pees for both, Runners: Ruth and Eli DGR RUN OF THE DAY #1 ![]() DISTANCE: 8.8 km DURATION: 1 hour 13 minutes Hello handsome Buck! Are you ready for some more time on the trails? I feel like I have covered every inch of the Douglas Fir Trail but Buck led me down another new steep single-track path. That is okay as we just went slower to start until we found even and flat terrain to run. There were so many gorgeous views to take in and I think this may be Calgary's best fall yet! I learned from my last run with Buck that he LOVES the water so I made sure we did a few river stops. At one stop, I talked to a Naturalist who was researching the beaver dams. Buck and I did not see a beaver though Buck seems not to be too bothered by various critters like squirrels. Our final challenge was a big trail hill to get back into Wildwood. It was no problem for athletic Buck! The Scoop: 0 poo, 3-4 pees. Runner: Ruth DGR RUN OF THE DAY #3 ![]() DISTANCE: 9.4 km DURATION: 1 hour 20 minutes Hello! Today was a wonderful day with Miss Lucy! We loved having the nice cool breeze today and seeing the beautiful colours of fall. For our run, Lucy and I decided to hit some trails and pavement. One word that I would use to describe our run was peaceful. Most of the time it was just Lucy, me, and the sound of my shoes on the pavement. On our way home, our pace slowed and we took more breaks to catch our breath. We also got a little turned around on a game trail but found our way back soon enough. Lucy was quite pleased with herself in finding a fallen tree branch, that she decided she would like to carry as a souvenir for a little bit. Lucy was very well mannered and wonderful to be with this morning! The Scoop: 2 pees, 0 poop. Runner: Dru DGR RUN OF THE DAY #2 ![]() DISTANCE: 9.7 km DURATION: 1 hour 7 minutes Wildlife watching! We started the week right with a super smooth bridge to bridge loop. Rossi was happy running a relaxed pace and despite a lot of pee stops in the first 20 minutes, was content to run continuously today. When we did stop for drinks, he was very focused on watching the wildlife! On the first stop on the other side of the river, he spied a beaver sunning itself and on the way home it was a group of water fowl we hadn't seen before. I'm always a bit apprehensive that he's going to plunge in after them, but he never does. He is always content to observe from a distance. The pace was certainly slower on the way home and Rossi seemed to need a little more encouragement than usual but he was happy to be out and about and certainly enjoyed his treats at the end. The Scoop: 9 pees, 1 poo. Runner: Allison DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 6.4 km DURATION: 1 hour 8 minutes Murphy kicked it into 4x4 today because he was an all-terrain machine. We went up and down; looping through the trails and he was energetic and lively (and not looking for sticks like usual). The fall colours were super pretty for pictures and the cloud cover made it a nice temperature. He did get his apple at the apple tree so he's got his serving of vegetables for today. Thanks Murphy! The Scoop: 1 pee, 2 poops. Runner: Jessica DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 4.8 km DURATION: 1 hour 13 minutes Today's Sunday walk included bringing along my husband Jamie. Jasper knows Jamie from his stay-overs at our home so he was pretty excited to get to see him. Jamie is nursing an injury so he was going super slow and I think Jasper was enjoying his pace. At our half-way point, Jamie and I parted ways so I could pick the pace up to make sure Jasper gets some good exercise for the day. Jasper was a bit confused about why we would leave Jamie behind so I had to do a treat trail to get him moving again. Our highlight was enjoying the weather and a quick stop to watch some baseball. The Scoop: 2 pees. Runner: Ruth DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 5 km DURATION: 1 hour 5 minutes This fine Saturday morning, I took Jasper on a tour of alleys. I secretly love going through back alleys and despite popular belief, they are not too scary and have hidden treasures, Jasper and I found some trash but we kept away from yucky items. I think Jasper thought those items would be delicious but I said "no way." The treasures we found included a handprint fence, wildflowers, a trampoline and some beautiful foliage. Once we hit sidewalks again (close to home), the adventure began. We were in our zone and Jasper lunged toward a cat who was hiding under a parked car. Luckily, the cat had good reflexes and I have strong abs to hold Jasper back. We also walked past a home where a huge flock of doves came out of nowhere. I think the back alleys were much more peaceful. The Scoop: 1 poo, 4 pees. Runner: Ruth DGR RUN OF THE DAY #4 ![]() DISTANCE: 9.1 km DURATION: 2 hour 2 minutes It’s good to be alive isn’t it Charlie! My friend and I had such a joyful excursion today. Wearing our giant smiles (because that’s what happens when we see each other), we headed out and our inner GPS took straight for the trails. Along the way, we ran into a handsome little man named Luka and he was absolutely enamoured with Charlie! It was so cute that I said to his mom... “ So there will be a puppy under the tree this Christmas?!?!!” She laughed but we all know it true. After that, we made our way over to the off- leash area. Charlie was more interested in all the delightful smells that he didn’t even notice the other pups until they were all up in his business (if you know what I’m saying). After that, one short dip in the stinky pond and homeward bound we headed. Thanks for just a lovely time today my friend. Charlie you're the greatest! 2 poos and several pees today. CHEERS! Runner: Tracy DGR RUN OF THE DAY #3 ![]() DISTANCE: 8.2 km DURATION: 1 hour 11 minutes Runs like this I need to store in my memory bank for when winter comes. It was perfection! Today, it felt like I was living my best life by taking out German Shepherd Buck for his first DGR run. I usually get to run his lovely Husky sister Juno but since she is on holiday, I got an opportunity to take out her 2-year old brother Buck. We hit the trails and he loved it. He was so sweet and did not pull me down the big steep section of the Douglas Fir Trail. He definitely could have done that but he was a gentle guy! We ran into a friend of mine who admired him as well as another couple on the trail who said, "Wow, that is a gorgeous dog!" I agreed whole-heartedly. I had so much fun taking photos of him with the autumn backdrop. When we stopped for a dip in the river, Buck showed me how much he likes swimming and he popped out of the water with some big energy. He was ready to sprint! Thanks sweet boy for creating this special memory! The Scoop: 1 poo and 2 pees. Runner: Ruth DGR RUN OF THE DAY #2 ![]() DISTANCE: 8.3 km DURATION: 1 hour 26 minutes I wore too many clothes today! What an amazing end of September day! Dodge, Jersey and I went down to the river path this morning and it was beautiful. With all the changing colours and people out and about. These 2 had many admirers! I love how these 2 pups get along. Jersey found a stick and carried it for quite a while and Dodge was looking at it longingly but was patient. As soon as Jersey had enough, it was Dodge's property until we were home. Both peed and marked quite a bit but no poop today Hope to see you both again soon as it was quite a treat to hang out with you! Runner: Brenda |
