DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: DURATION: 1 hour 22 minutes For the first 10 minutes or so Mira and I tried our best to help reunite a lost pooch with her family. We did find her but she wouldn’t come to us, so a lady watching us came over and I explained the situation, gave her a couple treats, (thanks Mira) and she took over for us! I hope Coral found her way home🏽 Next, Mira watched as I slid all over the place and landed on my butt a few times. What Mira? You know I don’t get my winter legs until spring! With only one option left, we headed over to the off-leash area so my friend could really enjoy this snow day.🥳 Seeing that smile is always worth it! Thanks for just being you my friend. Pleasure as always! Cheers! The Scoop: 12 pees, 1 poo. Runner: Tracy

I am always thankful for a little extra time spent with Gibbons and Toki, especially on cold days like today. As I arrived, the girls greeted me with their usual energy and excitement. After squirrel-gazing with both girls while finishing my breakfast, I threw a toy chicken for Toki a few times before we all cuddled up on the couch. Taking a look at the weather report; we only had a small window to get our walk in before the bulk of the precipitation came down. As it turns out, we were hit with the mix of rain/snow regardless and walked back to the house looking like a pack of wet dogs! After taking time to dry off, the girls and I played ‘Kibble Wars’ and ’Keep Away’ to warm up once again. Both Gibby and Toki got a well-deserved doggy Oreo as I made my way out the door, ending the day on a high. Thanks for spending your Friday with me girlies!
Pet Sitter: Jaime DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 8.8 km DURATION: 1 hour 42 minutes Well Charlie, the weather is not the greatest but that’s never stopped us from having a fetching good time playing stick toss! I know that was just bad....😬 We didn’t have any trouble finding the perfect sticks today. If my friend didn’t like the size or smell (eww that’s sounds dirty) he just moved along until he was satisfied.😂 Oh my this is going downhill fast! Charlie and I had a smashing good time like we always do. Charlie - it was an honour and a privilege to hang with you today. Thanks for being my friend, handsome! Cheers! The Scoop: 3 poos, 8 pees. Runner: Tracy DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 8.9 km DURATION: 1 hour 46 minutes HAHA! These two little poopers were priceless today. First, we had some leash issue., For the life of me, I couldn’t keep the three of us from getting tangled🙈 After some time, we kind of got it together and then the ladies began their usual sniff and stroll until released from their shackles! WOO WOO! It was a party and a half! Both Mona and Reilly be lined for a dip in the pond. I forgot to mention that previous to the swim Reilly peed on Mona!😂 I’m sure it wasn’t intentional but Mona didn’t bat an eye.... Now that’s what I call friendship! Next they tried to catch themselves a snack, I’m not sure if anyone was successful but it’s better that way.😳 The gals let me know when they were partied out and we headed on back to the comforts of home. Thanks for a GREAT time today ladies! I appreciate you more than you know! CHEERS. The Scoop: Runner: Tracy Our week started off with a loving little package! Little Lola arrived early Sunday morning for a visit with her suitcase all packed. Sunday at our house was a Doggy Play Day for sure. Sully, Kenny, Marley, Lola and Aoife all had a time romping in the backyard and time at our off-leash park. Sunday evening was just the girls, and these 3 do smashingly together. Nothing like ‘Girl Power’. Lola and Aoife played together and Momma Marley was the referee. Teaching ‘proper’ play and also partaking in on a few of the puppy antics. Lola is such a little love bug. The recipe for feeling loved is having Lola come for a visit. She just wants to give you so much of her affection. We would have cuddle time on the couch, and this little girl is a real snuggler. I am going through puppy cuddle withdrawals, since Aoife is now the size of a full grown Lab at only 4 months. Lola obliged me, without a blink of an eye, to accept cuddles. Lola would squirm when she had enough of this ‘baby business.’ Lola is a spunky little monkey and needs to see what is going on in all parts of the house. Tuesday, Lola had a chance to be reunited with DGR Huxley. Lola loved Huxley the first time she had an outing with him. Let’s just say, she remembered him. Nosehill was a great success, and at the hour mark Lola just laid down on the trail, time to go home, she was all tuckered out. Give the pups an hour or two nap and viola, it is time to play, We also watched the happenings of the neighbourhood outside the window and played some more. I got a couple of pics of Lola and Aoife, in all aspects of their time together. We miss you already Little L..
Pet Sitter: Michelle With the snow soon to fly in Calgary, Dog Gone Running (DGR) is posting some recent photos taken this week of our beautiful dogs enjoying the fall weather and crunching leaves. A lot of the doggies we run enjoy the S-word (SNOW) but the cool autumn weather has been glorious. Photos taken by all of our amazing DGR runners!
DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 10.4 km DURATION: 59 minutes Fall is a wondrous season. It is still warm outside, with the light popping out above the clouds. I still brought a jacket, but found I had to wrap it around my waist as I got warm quickly. Nell was off like a bullet again. I swear she is getting faster. The first 3 minutes was like a 400m run as I was gunning it; making sure she gets up to the speed she wants. After that, it was a little more moderate as we both settled into a consistent pace at the same time. I never really know where we will go, but we went towards the fisheries by Inglewood. The path was in the woods, with the trees bright and colourful; casting own shadows throughout the path. It felt like it was just us - lost and running with abandon towards nothing. A run always feels better when you don't worry about the destination. As we ran on towards the Bow River, leading southeast, we found ourselves in an area that looked like a countryside. With the dirt path we trekked on, and grass that was about waist level, I thought I was no longer in Calgary. No concrete jungle in these parts. We barely saw anyone on the way to the fish hatcheries except some landscapers that admired Nell and called for her at times, with one gent shouting "Careful, careful! Cute dog alert!" We saw a few people nestled in the bushes of the fish hatcheries, conversing and enjoying their time along in the wilderness, and some seeking out birds or ducks it looked like, decked out in camouflage to better hide themselves. One woman had what looked like a large rifle, but it was only a camera, which makes more sense. Nell was great today, but as soon as I got in, it seemed like she had more energy, bounding into the room, then coming back, then running off again. A faster run is in order. I look forward to the next one! The Scoop: 1 pee, 1 poo. Runner: Alejandro Marley, I hope you packed your running shoes for this pet sit!! You are going to have so much fun and lots of activities. Marley came to stay on Wednesday, as did DGR’s Famous Lab brothers Kenny & Sully. Marley & Sully get on so well. There was a doggy party happening all the time at our house. Marley let Sully stay and sleep on the bed with her. These two really like each other. We had several playdates and runs up at Nosehill. Marley helped introduce Nosehill to Aoife for her first inaugural visit. Momma Marley also monitored all the pups playtime. Too rough, too wild, too noisy……..Momma Marley to the rescue. Marley shared her Thursday BFF run with DGR Huxley and invited Sully to join in. Now that is true friendship Nap time and ‘quiet’ time was rewarded on the couch to whomever Marley felt behaved the best. The winner, could sleep on the couch with her. I must sadly report, I never got to spend an afternoon nap on the couch. Night-time was different, Marley shared the bed with Sully and I. I felt I better keep an eye on these two. A very action-packed week for Marley, just like her humans had. I forecast a lazy day tomorrow for Marly. A very well deserved R & R day. See you Thursday for another adventure sweetheart.
Pet Sitter: Michelle DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 2.9 km DURATION: 57 minutes Jasper, Teddy, and I made our way up to the ridge where the sun beamed down on us. Both of my furry friends immediately started rolling around in the grass. I threw a stick for Teddy, while Jasper watched. When Teddy was done playing with the stick, that’s when Jasper picked it up and had his go at chewing it. We took it easy today. At one point, Jasper needed to lay down. Teddy and I joined him. I stared at the clouds that were now covering the sun. They roamed across the sky like a herd of bison. Great job today Jasper! The Scoop: 2 pees. Runner: Ryan Wherever Kenny & Sully are, you know there will be fun going on. These two Labs are the life of the party and the household. We were so excited to have them back for a longer visit this time. As it fortunately happened, Marley B. was also staying during the same time period. Sully and Marley really like each other. Even though there is an age difference, they will always be found on their walks side-by-side. At night-time, it was Sully and Marley that slept on the bed with me. I caught them a couple of times with their paws touching side by side. Wish I could have taken a photo of that. Morning time was always Kenny & Aoife's playtime outside. Kenny got the hi jinx and pounced around and Aoife thought this was great. On Thursday, Marley & Sully had the pleasure of DGR Dog Huxley joining in on their Nosehill trip. Lots and lots of fun that day. Kenny loved his morning stroll in our off-leash park when it was just him and Aoife. Our evening walks consisted of the whole pack. On Saturday, Kenny and Marley partook in Aoife’s first adventure to Nosehill. I must say Aoife was all tuckered out when we got to the car. Maybe stimulation overload. Not even Kenny could get her to play until she had a long nap. By the end of the day, Sully was the only one up for keeping up with our pup. Sully would instantly drop and plop over with the toy in his mouth and show Aoife his belly. I do not think there was a toy in the toy box that these two did not play with. It was a great time having the ‘gang’ all here.
Pet Sitter: Michelle DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 1.49 km DURATION 41 minutes Gibbons DISTANCE: 2.7 km DURATION: 25 minutes Toki Well, it has been quite some time since I have seen these sweet Vizsla Sisters so it was fun to tag along on their outing today. That said, I actually spent most of the time luring Toki with treats and throwing their pull toys to them in the backyard. As of late, Toki has been hesitant to get harnessed up for her run so we worked on establishing trust and giving her some incentives (cheese) and TLC. Michelle took Gibbons out for a walk (see blog below), then it was backyard shenanigans, followed by finally getting Toki to see that running would be a fun activity. Bronagh took Toki out while I gave Gibbons some post-walk cuddles. Sometimes good things come to those who wait! Hope to see these 2 gals again soon! Written by Ruth Finally, I get to meet the famous Gibbons & Toki - the Vizla Gals. Gibbons and I went for a 30-minute outing and had a great chit chat. All personal bathroom business was taken care of and lots of acrobatics in the backyard. What a great way to spend a Monday afternoon. The Scoop: 6 pees, 1 poo. Written by Michelle It was an awesome run with Toki in the cooler weather today! It took lots of treats, encouragement, and play-time with Gibbons to get the harness on and out the door, but once we were out Toki was golden! She really didn’t want to be interrupted for pictures. A couple of squirrels were her biggest distractions, but even then she made the most out of our short run. Big thanks to Gibbons and Toki for making my first DGR run a fantastic one! Written by Bronagh Runners; Ruth, Michelle and Bronagh Biggles is always welcome at our house! He spent his days lounging around in his favourite spots: by the computer, under the covers in a bed, on the couch, and pretty much anywhere someone was sitting so that he could get them to pet him. A couple of days ago, I reorganized my room and decided to clean my carpet too. Biggles could not get enough of this clean carpet. He would lay on it, roll around in it, and stretch out his paws on it. Biggles is also very polite. When I fed him in the morning, he’d wait to eat till I sat down by him and started choking down on my morning granola. It was great having you again Biggles!
Pet Sitter: Ryan I have been looking forward to my Staycation with Kacie, Kaiser and Pink for quite some time now! After arriving in the morning and getting settled in, I took my three furry friends to our favourite hangout; the off-leash park. The first day was spent playing, fetching, chasing and chewing on toys, just the way it should be. Kaiser was anxious at first of leaving my side, thinking I would leave him at any moment as our time spent together is normally only on walks and briefly at home. After a few hours and realization that I was not going anywhere soon, Kai was relieved and able to calm down, enjoying cuddles on the couch. In the evening, after some more play-time (even Kacie joined in, chasing after her stuffy) I figured I would have a chance to get in a quick workout while the pups rested... Silly me! In between exercises, I would pass the ball around with Kai and roll the Kong toy for Pink, getting in some extra cardio. Pinky never ceases to make me smile, especially when she runs around with heavy chew toys in her mouth that are probably half her weight! Although he tried and tried, Kacie would not allow Kai to comfortably sleep on the bed with her, Pink and me (I don't blame her, it was already pretty snug). Instead he slept right beside the bed on his doggy bed, making sure I dangled my arm off the side so that he could touch me and cover me with slobber periodically. I had such a blast with you three and time sure flew by! I can't wait to see you guys next week, thanks for making my stay so much fun.
Pet Sitter: Jaime DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 10 km DURATION: 2 hours I’m calling this one “ In Search of the Stick” Let me start from the beginning. Charlie and I started out on our 2 hr tour the way we always do. We make it to the end of the driveway then it’s time for a snack! Charlie has to fuel up before I make him run..... Yes, I too thought that was funny. We actually did run for almost 4K because it was down hill and my friend figured out where we were headed. We went to the field over yonder for one of many games of stick toss! Unfortunately, we had some issues keeping track of the sticks so each and every time Charlie was bound and determined to find his precious treasures. And this is why we were out for so long. Sticks were far and few between. That being said, I had a great time as always! Charlie is number 1 in my books🏿 Thanks for making my day sweet cheeks! CHEERS! Runner: Tracy DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 8.2 km DURATION: 1 hour 1 minute Hi Bowie! Happy Thursday! What a BEAUTIFUL day today has turned out to be. I was excited to get out with you today because I knew we would hit the mileage I needed for my last run before my 50km Ultra on Saturday. We made several stops to admire the fall colours and even stumbled on the Acropolis of Elgin......? Odd to come across that weird landscape on our run hahah 🤣. I snapped a GORGEOUS photo of Bowie for her Mom today❤️ Enjoy your nap this afternoon - you earned it. The Scoop: 3 pees. Runner: Nancy |
