DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 7.5 km DURATION: 1 hour 34 minutes ROAD TRIP! Mira and Nova were questioning me when I opened up my doors and told them to hop on in. But they always know when I come around, something fun is about to happen so they happily committed themselves to wherever this treat truck was going to take them…. To the river we headed and my friends were ecstatic! We started off sprinting as usual but then they just had to get their feet wet (and nearly mine) so we headed to the water for a cool-down. Across the bridge and around the corner and we almost ran right into Michelle and Reba! What a nice surprise… we had ourselves a little chit chat and then carried on our merry way. The gals had such a blast that we may have to go road tripping again! Sooner than later. Thanks for always being so much fun ladies! Pleasure was all mine. 1 poo and many pees each. CHEERS! Mikki was very happy to see me. When he came downstairs he rolled over to show me his belly. Good Morning Mikki, and he smiled as I rubbed his belly. There is no Huxley walk today as he is on holiday. I do have a surprise waiting for you at home. Your friend Marley is staying with us for a couple of days and you two get on well. Mikki was so happy to see Marley that he forgot about Alcott (the rabbit, another friend of Mikki’s). It took over an hour before Mikki said hi to Alcott. It was very warm today, which meant shorter outdoor outings. Mikki was my office assistant today. He is pretty good on the computer. We finished our evening off, with all of us cuddled on the couch in the basement. Keep cool this week Mikki.
Pet Sitter: Michelle DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 7.3 km DURATION: 1 hour We managed to just beat the heat with the girls today and got a good run in! We went around the pond and saw ducklings on the lake. Then, Toki and I went back into the hills to grab some shade. We saw my favourite tiger lilies in bloom and there was a nice cool breeze at the top. Then, we went back down through the hood where it was starting to get hot. We kept a slow jog and stopped for water breaks. Whew! We have a few more days of this heat and I think we will be back to normal soon. The Scoop: just pees for both girls. Runner: Tara DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 5.3 km DURATION: 1 hour 23 minutes Good morning Kiddos! Look at you all ready to go early this morning. Oh, this will be another 🥵 hot one today. It was very busy on the paths today. There were a lot of bikers as well as doggies taking their humans for a walk; all out early in hopes of beating the heat! We took the lower trails as usual and stayed off the path as much as possible. Conor is so much more relax when Princess Leia is out with him. My dog Kop was on the quiet side today to the delight of kiddos. I guess everyone is a bit more mellow by the recent heatwave. Leia is very interested by squirrels 🐿. She pricks her ears way up and there is no way to get her attention back 😆. We found a beautiful daisy patch and we did our best to take nice photo there. The Scoop: Conor had 2 poops and 1 pee. Leia had 1 poop and 1 pee. Runner: Fab DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 7.4 km DURATION: 1 hour 22 minutes On the heels of school finishing for the summer and running into Canada Day tomorrow. lets' take a moment to acknowledge the land we are about to enjoy our time together on. Before the concrete jungle (one of my fathers many sayings) rose, each step we take is on borrowed land. We breathing in the stillness of this morning and making a conscious acknowledgement to those of the Treaty 7 territory where we stand. Today is a Day to Listen and Learn, especially when Canada is about to be 153 year tomorrow. #ADayToListen. 🙏🏻 Reba’s orange fur was flowing today. The Doggy Business Report: 2 pees and 1 poop. Runner: Michelle DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 5.7 km DURATION: 1 hour 25 minutes We tried our best today! Mona Reilly and I took it one step at a time, there was no reason to overexert ourselves in this heat! The ladies and I dillydallied our way through the hood with snacks and water about every 10 minutes. They needed the water not the snacks to keep their energy up! Reilly seemed a little less affected by the temperature so I took some ice cubes and stuffed them in the back of Mona’s harness for a little extra protection against the sun. Needless to say, she was pleased. Although they did wonder why I was making them move! Thanks for hanging in there ladies! Pleasure as always! 2 poo and many pees each. Cheers and stay cool! Runner: Tracy DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 4.4 km DURATION: 1 hour 5 minutes Gibbons and Toki came face to face with the heatwave today and did fantastic! We moved our run to the morning to help avoid the sweltering temperatures later in the day, but it was still quite warm out. Fortunately, we kept plenty of water on hand and both girls did great to tough it out and still get a good run in! Gibbons was a superstar today, getting out for 20 solid minutes - an improvement from last week! We all know Gibs is a bit fickle with weather conditions and temperature, so I always make sure to give her lots of love when she turns in a great effort on a tough day! Toki was keen to keep the run going after we dropped Gibbons off, which we continued in a nice and relaxed fashion in order to avoid overheating. We were sweating in no time, though, even with the slower pace! Super job today girls & have a great Canada Day! The Scoop: 3 pees apiece for Gibbons and Toki. No poops today. Runner: Dan DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 3.3 km DURATION: 1 hour 31 minutes Hi Miss Patti and then she jumps into the jeep. Oh just wait - you need your cooling jacket on. These are such a great idea. I have been looking at a few for Aoife. Now I see the one to get. We headed straight to the cool refreshing river. Magically, we must run around the off-leash first. They chased all their friends and made some new ones. As Patti and Aoife jumped from one river bank to the other, I caught the glimpse of a familiar face. Then around the corner came Kali my ‘pocket princess.’ Kali is another DGR client. It was lovely to see her again and chat with her human. By this time, Patti and Aoife were pretty tuckered out. It is a lot of work being the ‘Social Sisters’🤣. We all headed back to the vehicle, after a few more rest plops in the shade. Patti was sleeping before we left the parking lot. I completely understand that urge. As I was taking Patti to the door I was greeted by her Mom with a to-go bottle full of ice water AND an ice roller. OMG, that felt so good on the back of my neck. An angel for sure took care of me today. The Doggy Business Report: 1 poop and 1 pee. Runner: Michelle DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 10.4 km DURATION: 1 hour 5 minutes It was a beautiful early morning run with Willow today. It was still bloody hot out already but pretty decent considering what it will be later. We did an out and back on the south side which was nicely shaded for a lot of the run and made things a little cooler. We stopped for several water drinks and breaks as well. She was very interested in just about every small dirt path that went off the main path. Man that made for some jarring stops! We had some barks at a couple dogs but nothing major and as soon as we passed by she was done. All good! Another pleasure and a quick run! The Scoop Pees: 1 poops, 0 pees. Runner: Mark DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 5.9 km DURATION: 1 hour 5 minutes Today was a special and exciting day for Conor, Leia and me because for the first time, we all got to run together! Usually these two pups are walked separately, but we decided to give it a go today after their success on a walk last week. And to my surprise, they were amazing together! Their tails were wagging the entirety of the walk, and I could just tell how happy they were to be walking together. Today is so beyond hot that there is an “excessive heat warning”, so I’m really glad we went for our walk when we did because it is just getting hotter and hotter by the hour. We made lots of stops for swimming and drinking, and walked through the forest paths to stay shaded which was nice and cool. Conor and Leia for the most part just ran beside each other, and the odd time they would try to play. I would simply grab their leash and hold them at either side of me so we could continue. I think we will be seeing many more walks altogether in our future and I can’t wait! Stay cool today you fun pups! The Scoop: 1 poop each, 0 pees. Runner: Kathleen DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 6.7 km DURATION: 1 hour 6 minutes Reba was a great running partner and I'm so happy we went early before the heat set in! We found my new favourite road in the city with the most spectacular views of downtown. After that Reba led the way down to the pathway and we enjoyed a nice breeze along that whole stretch. I'm glad we cut back early because she started slowing down so we had lots of walking and water breaks (including a nice sprinkler find!). There was one rabbit that was very exciting for her (haha) but she was a good girl and didn't woof at him (but she reeaally wanted to chase it). Thanks Reba. The Scoop: 2 poop, 0 pees. Runner: Jessica DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 10.7 km DURATION: 1 hour 8 minutes It was another great run with Jasper. We took off with a few exuberant yelps and we were flying! We did a nice route by the university and got a quick water break at the pond near there. Hopefully, some nice pictures were had as well. He was really good today. We saw very few people or dogs. One rabbit that piqued some interest but he left it alone and we were good. We stayed to some shady areas and took some walk breaks. The Scoop:. 0 poops, several pees. Runner: Mark DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 4.3 km DURATION: 1 hour 3 minutes What do 3 runners and 2 wonderful Vizslas add up to on this hot summer morning? A wonderful nature walk in beautiful Crestmont. Regular DGR Runner Tara introduced prospective runner CJ to these sweet sisters and guided us on the lake loop and back trails. We saw a muskrat, geese, tiger lilies, Alberta roses and a cool mountain bike jump. It was nice being by the water and then in the cool shade of the birch trees. Gibbons did the first 22 minutes or so with us before pulling the plug and returning home. Then, Toki took us on a light jog before we all agreed it was more walking weather today. We even had a lady in the neighbourhood who said, "No running up hills in this weather." You did not have to twist our arm to agree that this was a smart move. As you can see in the photo, Gibbons gave CJ her approval. I know the girls will miss lovely Tara when she heads to vet school but CJ will be a great addition to the DGR team. Well, time to hit the backyard doggy pool for a cool-down. The Scoop: lots of pees for both G&T. Blog written by Ruth Today the girls got 3 runners for our run! I got into vet school which is bittersweet because it means I have to give up some runs with my fav pups Gibbons and Toki, but our new runner CJ will be a perfect replacement. Ruth and I took CJ on a run with the girls to show her the ropes. It was such a fun run discussing all I know about these funny pups and reminiscing on all my memories with them. We went up in the hills and saw some beautiful tiger lilies that just bloomed. I'll be sad to say goodbye to the girls but happy to know they are in good hands 💜. The Scoop: just pees for both girls. Blog written by Tara Runners: Tara, Ruth and CJ DGR RUN OF THE DAY ![]() DISTANCE: 5.9 km DURATION: 1 hour 5 minutes There was not a single cloud in the sky this summer morning and temperatures kept rising. Winnie was out enjoying the backyard with Grandpa when I arrived but still greeted me in her energetic fashion. She was so pretty sporting her new haircut! We walked the shaded paths by the pond and schools then circled the lake. Kona wasn’t too sure about the walk when it was her turn but with some encouragement, we were off. Kona and I stuck close to home; walking the neighbourhood sidewalk and around half the pond. Being black on these days is tough!! The Scoop: Winter had 1 pee, 1 poop. Kona had no doggy business to report. Runner: Brenda When I went to pick Ennis up it was a bit unfair. Usually, he jumps straight into the back of my vehicle. I always leave the hatch open. This time his Mom’s hatch was open as well as mine. “Oh Boy!! Which one do I jump into?” Not fair, sorry Ennis! After explaining that he was going to come to my house, he jumped out of Mom’s and into mine. Then when we got to my house, there was no way he was going to leave the Jeep. Henry came out with a pocket full of treats and Aoife was howling in the backyard to try and convince Ennis it was time to have some fun at our house. The doggy pool was a blessing this weekend with such warm weather. The dogs did not seem to mind when I cooled my feet in there too. The middle of the day you could find us all on our couches and beds in the basement, relaxing and watching TV together. This hot weather is pretty fun. See you soon Ennis McGuinness.
