![]() DISTANCE: 6.86 km DURATION: 50:23 Happy Friday Charlie (cough cough!) Holy Cow, I did not expect this smoke to roll in like this! I could hardly make out the rooftops coming down the hill to your neighbourhood today. Charlie and I took it very easy on our run. We stayed along the edge of the river in hopes that there was a little less smoke but I don’t think it made a difference. Charlie was raring to go despite the crappy air quality and we did manage to get in over 6 km so I’m happy with that. Better than nothing right Charlie?! At one point, he was really pulling to get in the river but we have to keep you in perfect condition overseas! See you next week Charlie. I sure hope the smoke is gone by then so we can run further together. Charlie’s Scoop: 2 pees. Runner: Nancy

![]() DISTANCE: 4.69 km DURATION: 56:22 The pups didn't get the memo about the poor air quality and still needed to go outside so that's what we did! Both boys were so good and so sweet today. It was like they were saying " thank you for still taking us out!" I took Sully out first. We jogged slowly so it was not too hard on the lungs to process the air. There were a couple of squirrels on the way and I didn't see them but he started to chase and I was like, where is he taking me!!😂 . He loved rolling in the grass and sniffing flowers! 1 poop and 4 pees for Sully. Kenny's turn was next! We took our time and walked at his pace! He also enjoyed sniffing the grass and the flowers. Kenny did about 1 km or a little less of the walk. He decided not to chase squirrels and save energy for the walk! Kenny had 1 poop and 5 pees. They both are so sweet and when I took them back they were looking at me with sweetest eyes like " what fun is next?" I gave them a dose of loving, told them how good they were, and then left feeling happy from great time spent! Runner: Oxana ![]() DISTANCE: 6.33 km DURATION: 1:05:03 Unfortunately for me, I woke up with a pretty bad headache from the air, so I knew it might be a challenge for Rossi’s run. We started out in a jog just to test, but that that didn’t last for too long so Rossi and I moderated between a slow jog and a brisk walk which seemed fine for him as well. The benefit of going down to the river was that it was a good way for both Rossi and me to cool off and Rossi could stave off getting his own headache by drinking plenty of water. We scared some geese, saw hardly anyone else on the path, and took eerie photos of Rossi on the river with all the smoke in the air. The Scoop: 1 poop, several pees. Runner: Sarah ![]() DISTANCE: 4.78 km DURATION: 1:04:39 Today, with the smoke. we kept it real chill. We just did some walking to get our exercise in, and I think it suited Zenna just fine. She trotted along right beside me; happy as a clam. We walked along the river, and the paths were much more quiet than usual. The runners and cyclists were missing. The smoke over the river looked a lot like mist, if it weren't for the smell we could almost pretend it was! The scoop: 10+ pees, no poops. Runner: Gabi ![]() DISTANCE: 5.03 km DURATION: 59:42 I have run Kahlua enough times to know that sometimes she is camera shy but not today. With the smoky conditions, we just walked briskly and took time to smell things, take photos of sights (a Free Library and chalk art), and capture Kahlua even smiling right at the camera. We even had a dog come chase us from it's home and Kahlua was on her best behaviour. Ironically, this dog is a Doodle named Ginger who is related to DGR Golden Jasper. Thanks Kahlua for such a lovely Friday stroll and photo shoot . The Scoop; 2 poops and 3 pees. Runner: Ruth ![]() DISTANCE: 6.83 km DURATION: 1:24:38 Good morning gang! Shadow came to greet me in the parking lot today. I had to tell him we would play safe as with a 10 plus level, the air quality is awful. So we settled for 5K. It was a mix of run, walk, playing ball, and swimming session. Well, that last one wasn’t planned; that was entirely Shadow’s idea 🤣. Mommy was good sport when she saw him coming back wet. The only thing I can say is that Shadow had a blast with all those activities. He probably did 7K. 😊. Then was the gals' turn. Java was the first one in line; very eager to go. Pinky was on the go as well. She didn’t even try to stop, and sweet Mochy Moo is always the same; she loves to please. She is such sweet gal. Shadow had 2 poops and multiple pees. The gals had one poop each and a couple pees. Runner: Fab ![]() DISTANCE: 3.71 km DURATION: 53:57 Holy smokes! Pun intended! It was a much slower pace today to keep healthy. We avoided too much "strenuous" activity today. Gogol definitely wanted to get going! He was practically chomping at the bit to pick up the pace. We took to the city; hitting the pavement which is something different from our usual path behind the Stampede Grounds. I imagine we were a scene out of the movie Oliver. Gogol and I had a great time moving from block to block; living the city life. The scoop: 1 poop, 7 pees. Runner: Gabi ![]() DISTANCE: 7.36 km DURATION: 1:01:33 It was such a pleasure to meet Lincoln today! What a handsome boy! We took it easy today and did really short run/walk intervals so that Lincoln could burn off some energy but not stress his lungs to much. He is so smart; he seemed to read my mind for our intervals and direction choices. I enjoyed exploring his neighbourhood with him and even though it was PACKED with squirrels, he was a total gentleman on the leash and didn't once pull! We visited a mini library for a photo with Lincoln, stopped to roll on some grass, and enjoyed the sights of all the blooming flowers! Hopefully, the weather will be better next time we run together so we can actually smell the flowers! I hope our short little jaunt was as enjoyable for Lincoln as it was for me! Thanks handsome! 1 poop and literally over a dozen pees/marks. Runner: Laura ![]() DISTANCE: 2.59 km DURATION: 40:50 Hey guys, it sure is smoky out there! Archie was up first! As soon as we got outside, I realized that it was almost creepy out. There were no construction noises, no people walking their dogs, or children... it was just us. Almost like the Walking Dead! Where is everyone? We kept it nice and short; simply because it isn’t good for me or Archie to be out there today. Next up - Miss Freckles. By the time I got to her, the smoke started to bother my asthma, so I grabbed my puffer, and breathed through that... it seemed to work. Freckles really wanted to run, but I had to explain to her that today is not about the running, it is simply about the bio break! She soon understood. I wonder if smoke bothers dogs eyes and lungs too. It must right? We all survived and the pups are home safe and sound! Archie had 6 pees, no poops. Freckles had 1 poop, 4 pees. Runner: Audra ![]() DISTANCE: 4.42 km DURATION: 1:03:00 Hello Big M! I see your happy face in the window 😊. Today is not a great day to exercise our lungs to the max. We are going to walk at a nice pace and spend more time in the trees to filter the air for our delicate lungs. And you Big M, have big lungs so we want to be careful. Our time together was fabulous like being in the Emerald Forest. Marley had lots of off-leash time which makes this big boy smile. Marley had a young Black Lab admirer who wanted to leave his pack and join ours. After several minutes of playtime, we had to walk back to the young Lab's pack because for sure he would have come home with us🐾. See you Monday, Buttercup. The Doggy Business Report: 2 poops and 4 pees. Runner: Michelle ![]() DISTANCE: 2.19 km DURATION: 36:38 HOLY SMOKE! What the heck happened girls? I thought these campfire-like conditions were supposed to improve and not worsen over night. ‘’Mom” and I decided it would be best that we walk instead of run, and cut the walk short if necessary. We started off around the pond; enjoying the fresh breeze. We began to feel signs of fatigue and headaches induced by the smoke, around the half hour mark. Despite the conditions, we made the most of a gloomy situation. The scoop: 1 pee and 1 poop for Toki, 3 pees for Gibbs! Runner: Jaime ![]() DISTANCE: 7.60 km DURATION: 1:16:41 Well, my friend, a set of iron lungs or some steel sinuses might come in handy today, don’t ya think?🤪 Oh well, it is was it is, so let’s just take it easy today and do what we do best.... PAR-TAY! Mira thought this was a fantastic idea😊 So we made our way to one of her favourite free-range spots and she made the most of it. Next into the coulee’ we went. I figured the air might not be as thick down there. I’m not sure if it was a mental thing or just the beauty of the coulee’ but it felt a bit easier to breathe, not that it had any effect on our pace😂. We eventually made it out and homeward bound we headed. Thanks for a fantastic Friday morning frolic Mira! 2 poos and many pees today. Cheers and have a great weekend! Runner: Tracy ![]() DISTANCE: 0.31 km DURATION: 3:43 Today, Lucy and I had a really modified 'run' on account of the smoke. We went out to her park 3 times to let her pee and have some outside time, but most of our hour was spent inside. I took pity on her and only made her do 4 stair repeats today, and then played fetch in her house. There were lots of belly scratches, pets, and more failed selfies than I'd like to admit! I know she was disappointed that we weren't running; especially because it was cooler out and the temperature would have been perfect, but that's the way life goes sometimes! I hope all the pets made up for it! Thanks for a fun hour Lucy! 2 pees and no poops. Runner: Laura ![]() DISTANCE: 6.89 km DURATION: 1:24:40 The only thing I like smoked is my tofu!😜 Charlie’s human gave us a license to lallygag today so away we went on our walkabout. 😊 Okay. let’s be realistic, Charlie’s going away for a whopping 10 weeks to the lake for a holiday and even if the conditions were good I still would have made this adventure with my friend last a long time. Selfish? I don’t think so😬 Anyways, because we were walking I figured we may as well hit the trails and get a little hill work in. Yes, it was coulee’ crawl number 2 for me today and still not a soul in sight. It was probably better that way, Charlie decided he needed to play some stick- toss. You know how hard it is to play that game in the coulee’ on a single track trail? It ain’t easy! 😂 Thanks for being such a joy Charlie! Have a fantastic holiday and we shall see you when you get back! 1 poo and several pees today. CHEERS! I’ll miss you sweet cheeks. Runner: Tracy ![]() DISTANCE: 5.13 km DURATION: 1:05:08 Holy smokes is it smoky outside from the Alberta fires! The game-plan for this Friday Byrdie-Teddy outing was to take it nice and easy . This gave us ample opportunity to meet play with friends. There was this big St. Bernard who enjoyed watching Teddy chase the ball and then there was Oscar the Maltese. We went through the treed area by the Science Centre as I heard that it is best to stay near green spaces when the air quality is poor. Despite the conditions, our trio had a great time and of course, I enjoyed my post-run visit with Byrdie's family. The Scoop: 1 poo and pee for Miss Byrdie. I hope the weekend brings some rain followed by blue skies. Runner: Ruth |
