Let’s go find that Easter Bunny, Quinn!! Finally the snow stopped and we could get some good tracks to follow. 🐰 My friend Quinn has a very keen interest in bunnies so today was the prime day to go looking. We headed west, because it seems like all good things are to be found ‘going west’. We searched in snowbanks, in the forest and even on the main streets. I heard that rascally rabbit has been spotted in all the megalopolises of the World 😊. No luck on our end but we gave it a good try and had lots of fun on our run. Happy Easter everyone 🐣. The Doggy Business Report: 1 poop and 4 pees.

Good morning Ennis, your mom says you're full of beans today, so let’s get going! Except Runkeeper decided it did not want to join us on our run and refused to load. So, while I dealt with technical difficulties, Ennis sat patiently waiting. But, Runkeeper still refused to load! Ennis was starting to give me that ‘are we gonna go??’ look, so we improvised and tracked our run on Strava instead. On top of that, my music app also refused to load, so it turned into kind of a tech free outing for Ennis and me. It also turned into one of the best runs I think Ennis and I have done together.  Ennis was super focused, and it was a nice change to listen to the noises around us, instead of plugged in. I had no idea how far we had gone, or how fast, but I think we ran our fastest 7.5 km! We had one little hiccup that stopped us up a bit, when my bladder decided it needed to expel my morning coffee RIGHT NOW mid run. Luckily, we found a washroom en route.  Sorry Ennis, you have to come right into the stall with me; he was so good and just waited, he must have sensed my urgency! Always an adventure Ennis! Four pees and one poop for Ennis today.

Kaiser and his female posse

Poor Kaiser has had a tough couple of days with all of the difficulties with his eye, so this morning me and my mom both headed over to walk him to take his mind off of his pain. I'm pretty sure our plan worked, as you can say Kaiser was more than excited to see us both. After spending some time helping out Kaiser's mom give Kai his eye drops, we headed out, taking Kaiser's two sisters Kacie and Pink out with us as well. We formed quite the collective - the five of us, with Pinky strutting out in front of us and Kaiser with his giant cone just like a bull in a china shop charging around. Kacie was of course as perfectly behaved as she always is just trotting alongside us, occasionally giving her younger brother exasperated looks when he shoveled up snow with his cone. It was pretty chilly out so Pink jumped up on my leg so I would scoop her up. She spent half the walk perched up, observing the world around her from her favourite seat (someone's arms of course). We went out slowly so these three could sniff around as much as they wanted, but me and my mom had such a fun time with the this clan this morning. The scoop: 1 poo each and lots of pees for all.

Polo's fitness already improving!

Winter never seems to end in this crazy country of ours. I wondered how Polo would fair out in the chilly breeze and fresh snow. His hair is really short but he has plenty of muscle for insulation. When we left home the cool air gave him a burst of energy and had him hopping and skipping around like a puppy with the biggest smile on his face! We kept moving at a steady pace to keep warm and I could even feel a sweat starting underneath my many layers of clothing. With the sun shining it didn’t feel that cold, that is, until we turned to head back towards home and started running into the wind. The breeze was bone chilling and suddenly it felt like I could use another layer. I couldn’t believe how Polo was handling it so well. He wasn’t fazed in the least and would often run in the deep snow instead of on the sidewalk. He found a few sniff spots that he glued his nose to; if I didn’t eventually give him a tug with the leash and ask him to follow I’m sure he would stay there all day sniffing every last detail. We covered more ground today which makes me think Polo’s fitness is improving already! He sat by the door wagging his tail and didn’t want me to leave him. Don’t worry Polo I’ll see you again in a couple days! The scoop: 3 pees, no poo.

An 8K with Leo and Bunnies

Long time no see Leo. How have you been? After quickly re-acquainting myself with Leo, the two of us were off into the cold. We have had a bit of snow here in Calgary, so the snow, the icy sidewalks and Leo’s insatiable curiosity and need to sniff things led to us keeping a slower pace today. Despite this slow pace, I was determined to get us past the 8 km mark, no matter how long this took us. So Leo and I made lots of stops as Leo sniffed out a pole, pulled at a bunny (not like the ugly hares I see in Wildwood but a full on bunny rabbits), and stopped to lay in the snow. The bunnies must of heard that it was Easter weekend because they were out in full force, even coming in a variety of colours. So even with all of these hold ups, Leo and I still managed to go 8km on this chilly, cold Good Friday. Hope you and your family have a  fantastic Easter Leo! The scoop: 1 poo and 4 pees.

😳 Mira, I think Mother Nature is playing a sick joke on us😬. I know you prefer the cold but COME ON! Even Mira was a little annoyed at that wind. Mira tried her best to make me run hard but there was a thin layer of ice underneath the freshly fallen snow so every time she took a step one of her paws slipped. Let’s slow down and take it easy today Mira! Boy did she ever, now it was all about the yellow snow😂
(be careful what you wish for). All good, I know I’m here for your entertainment! We casually perused the hood with ease, Why? Because there was no one else out! It was actually nice and peaceful until I couldn’t feel my nose. We finished up with a short sniff and stroll around the block. It was a little too dangerous for my old friend Mully so we only did about a kilometre today. Thanks for getting me out today Mira! (I think😜) 1 poo and several pees for Mira; 1 poo and 4 pees for Mr. Mulligan today. Cheers and have a fantastic Easter!

Happy Friday Sam! I've decided that this horrid weather we keep getting will not get me down, so let's bounce outside and get this Good Friday run going! I planned a route that would take us mostly east and west so we could avoid running into the cold blowing snow from the north. Luckily, the snow died down about 10 minutes into our run so it was much more enjoyable. I'm always quite aware of the surroundings when Sam and I run together. Although ,Sam knows who is in charge, he is a dog, and when this dog sees a rabbit, he can't help but try and catch it! So I wasn't surprised when Sam spotted none other than the Easter Bunny! I was too slow to catch him on camera; well, let me rephrase that... I was too busy trying to stay on my feet as Sam desperately tried to catch the famously camera-shy Easter Bunny. It was an all out sprint! That's okay, I needed to do some speed training anyways. Sam got some off-leash time and used it to scratch what must have been a very bad itch, and to investigate one of the largest snow balls I have ever seen! Back at Sam's house, we had the usual wipe-down and treat. Normally I would say see you in a week Sam, but lucky me I get to see you on Tuesday as well! Have a great weekend and thanks for the run!  Dog business: many pees.

Wow,  now that is an Easter weekend day. However, ice and snow-blowing wind are just the kind of day Marley loves. With his great traction and warmer weather gear, he was a happy camper. We visited a fun Golden Lab who thought Marley was very cool. And he managed his favourite belly flop /roll over. This is one of his trademarks. The scoop: one poo, many pees, and a great morning.

Hello Buddy & Roxy.  It's Good Friday so why then does it feel like it's Christmas? Today was -10C degrees, with a -20C windchill, which we definitely experienced head on, but Buddy, Roxy & I still had fun braving the harsh elements that Calgary threw at us once again. Buddy & Roxy are small dogs with huge personalities. Buddy will do his business, and whilst I'm trying to clean up his poop, he doesn't want anything to do with it, so he will try and pull me away in the opposite direction. Roxy now is happy to stop and roll in the snow and run up and down the snow piles. Roxy was enjoying the deep snow so I took them cross-country exploring some new trails. We made our way down into Fish Creek Park, the wind dropped, the feather-like snow fell, and I felt like we were in a snow globe. It was beautiful. Sadly, it didn't last for long, the nasty wind picked up and we headed back into a headwind with blowing snow.  Variety is the spice of life! Scoop: Buddy had 4 poops, 4 pees. Roxy had 3 pees.

Good morning sweet Skye! Boy are you ever beautiful! She was a little nervous when I first came in and her human told me she's a bit shy with new people. That's okay sweet pea we can take our friendship slow. I bent down and let her come to me and a couple butt scratches later and a tentative face lick and we set off! It was a crummy, windy blustery kind of winter day but since Skye is part Husky, it didn't faze her at all. We took it pretty easy as the paths were the deadly trap of a fine layer of snow on top of sometimes sheer ice! It was only meant to be a 30 minute run but I wasn't ready to give her up and she seemed happy to be out too so we forged ahead! The trees with the hoar frost were awesome! So magestic...and even more so since almost no one was outside when we ran. Thanks for a perfect Friday Skye! Happy weekend. One poop, one pee.

Dreaming of summer with this sunny girl

Oh Lucy! It was so cold out today. I started dreaming about the beautiful summer days when we can run together in 24 degrees with the sun shinning and the flowers in bloom.  Today was not one of those days but it still felt a little warmer because I got to run with a sweet, sunny gal. You brightened up this spring snowstorm.  The park looked beautiful in the snow and Lucy and I had a great time exploring. My fingers were a bit numb so the pictures aren't very artistic but Lucy still makes them look like works of art. Not much to say except I'm really loving our runs together and that I'm very excited for those warm days when we can just go all out and not be blinded by the snow.  I'm going to try to make this a part of our regular blogs for Lucy since we're keeping her in good shape. Calories burned: 646.  The Scoop: 1 poop, 1 pee.

Another cold play-date with Byrdie and Jamie but they warm up to each other

Really? -12C? This is no way to enjoy a second play-date; especially when Byrdie and Jamie's first play-date was also very cold and snowy. But, this is Calgary and it's not quite even April, so we just grin and bear it. So it's been two weeks since these two girls have walked together, and we pretty much had to start from scratch and let them get reacquainted. Jamie is gregarious and playful, and quite rambunctious. Byrdie is shy, reserved and delicate. For the first 30 minutes, I had to calm Jamie and encourage Byrdie. Over time, Jamie settled down and Byrdie gained confidence. The two of them started running side by side, tails wagging, with the occasional nose touch. It was very sweet. We look forward to another, hopefully warmer, play-date! The scoop: one poo for Jamie; one pee for Byrdie.

One Night Stand with Jasper

I am having a one night stand with Jasper.  Just kidding. This handsome Golden Retriever is just at my house for less than 24 hours.  So let's get it started.  We took a quick trip to River Park with Teddy to play.  This tires the doggies out for a bit so we can snuggle and watch I,Tonya.  I don't think the boys are interested into this figure skating flick so close your eyes and rest pups.  Next up, hot tub time. This is usually me going in the hot tub and Jasper and Teddy playing with different chew toys and a ball. Okay, you are played out and hungry so next up dinner.  We also had a guest from Denver, Colorado in our house as he is breaking in tomorrow's b-boy battle.  Jasper had a totally of 6 teenage boys to play with him. How lucky was he?  This morning I took the doggies to River Park and boy was it chilly ( at least for me).  Jasper had a good time running around and sniffed the water fountain Easter Bunny.  After some exercise, it was time for Jasper to head home.  This was a short but very sweet time with Jasper!

Looks like Mother Nature has a few more tricks up her sleeve! It was a blustery run with Rona today. It felt like every direction we ran, the wind and snow were coming straight at us. We saw a funny piece of art on someone’s fence today as we headed down to Fish Creek. We enjoyed the twisty trails along the river before we headed back home to pick up Gord. As soon as we headed out with Gord, the sun came out (briefly) and the snow stopped. It was a glorious few minutes! Both dogs had their token “rolls in the snow” and at one point Rona bowed down and got playful with Gord. It was super cute! Happy Easter Rona and Gord and I hope to see you next week. Rona’s Scoop : 1 poop, 7 pees. Gord’s Scoop: 1 poop, 2 pees.
